I started shampooing some carpet yesterday, and our shampooer was leaking from the bottom, so... I took it apart.
After a bit of trial and error, I discovered that the side port/valve where the water/solution hose for the upholstery tool attaches to the machine was the source of the leak. It is called a "quick disconnect assembly," and I found the end cap popped up on one side caused by a broken locking tab on the inside of the part. I could put my mouth on the inlet tube, blow, and hear air passing through but when I pushed the end cap down as it should be and blew through the inlet tube, no air would pass through. I searched online for the part, but it is not manufactured anymore, so I decided to try and fix this one. I have some black epoxy and clamped the part so that the end cap would be seated properly, then mixed up the epoxy and filled in the slot where the locking tab would be. I also epoxied the other side for good measure even though that locking tab was intact. Now, I will have to wait a day or so, put it all back together, and see what happens. If my "fix" doesn't work, then I will just plug the hose that connects to the "quick disconnect assembly." I won't be able to use the upholstery tool but would still be able to use the machine for cleaning the carpet. We have a "Little Green Machine" for upholstery anyway. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...092a69997e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0be81f55d4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3dfd87efcd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...bf30f36283.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...912d7286a7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...15a5325bce.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e0698aba78.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f96e915f42.jpg Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk |
After moving the seat back and installing the Momo steering wheel with an extension in the 911, my last task was to extend the shift lever. I bought a used one, cut it and welded in a 3 inch rod, that I turned down the ends to insert, for extra stability
Now, I’m just waiting for the new knob to come in, to finish it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735529969.jpg |
Well, drat!!! The endcap of the "quick disconnect assembly" is still popped up a little, allowing water to still pass through and leak. I need to find a clamp with a smaller surface area so that I can put epoxy around the inside edges of the end cap on the part. So... I plugged the hose for now and put the machine back together so that it can still be used as a carpet shampooer. I consider it a small victory as I didn't have any leftover parts and got all the different sized screws in their correct locations!!! [emoji28]
Had to include the picture of Pai peeking into the laundry room to see what I was doing. [emoji23] https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...62dd8233b5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...85a9ba7db3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d9797cc3ca.jpg Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk |
Replaced the touchscreen portion of the radio on Ms Rockets 2015 Tahoe. It probably took about an hour.

Replaced the cooling system on the 2025 Tahoe. Water pump, thermostat, belts, tensioner, heater hoses, etc. Unfortunately, I dropped one water pump bolt in the ether, never to be found. Need to get another bolt today, before I fire it up. It was rather easy* compared to my 2014 F150.
*Except the heater hose fittings at the firewall. The only way to reach remove them I found is to break the tabs with screwdrivers. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735984935.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735984935.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735985105.jpg |
Playing with a new (to me) stripper. It works... sort of. You need to leave it overnight, and it doesn't melt through multiple layers nearly as well as MC...
Got a new set of wera's... merry Christmas to my second hand snap-on box http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736043085.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736043085.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736043085.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736043085.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736043085.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736043085.jpg |
That stripper still makes a holy mess, even without the Methylene Chloride.
I guess my big fixin' event today was the garage compressor, I located and fixed an air leak in the plumbing. I'm happy it's done, but talk about small victories! |

Ya...no matter how it's sliced it's an ugly messy job. The difference is having to do it multiple times instead of once.. |

Just found these on Amazon. In particular this one which looks like it would be perfect for my motorcycle work! Wera 056490 Tool-Check Plus Bit Ratchet Set with Sockets - Metric Rated a full 5 stars by 14,008....wow! |

This is the set the Ukranian had who transported my last Interceptor here. He used it to loosen the front brake caliper so we could roll the bike easier.
I keep plenty of tools here at my house....and quite a few in the truck. But sometimes I take the Volvo and don't have any tools with it, outside of the factory kit, which is not that much. So thinking of what would make the most sense as a mobile set, without something overly enormous...... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736105199.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736105199.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736105199.JPG |

I took the alternator out of my 911 today. The bearings were going bad. I will get it rebuilt by a local guy that assures me he will use quality bearing, and no Chinesium crap.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736119043.jpg Now I need to clean the fan and housing up. I will try to find a dry ice cleaner. Then decide it I need ceracoat, or just leave it as a raw finish of magnesium. |

And it was easier than when I did my 2014 F150. |

Still working on the rebuild of my 86 engine.
For those of you that haven't done this, it's 90% cleaning. Every part is wiped/scrapped down, scrubbed in the parts cleaner tank, cleaned again with parts/brake cleaner, washed in soapy water and rinsed. Then if not to my satisfaction the process starts all over again. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736260411.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736260450.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736260466.jpg |
Trimmed a small hedge using my cordless Kebtec pruners. Goal was to cut trimmings into small enough pieces to fit in the trash cans, that I use for gardening.
I filled 4 cans yesterday and came back today and filled 2 more while completing the job. These Kebtecs have a snip counter. Yesterday was 570 snips...today 402. The top number indicates amount of charge left. Not a big job but made easier with these pruners....... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736303246.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736303246.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736303246.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736303246.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736303246.JPG |
I’m so proud of myself, so I will share my solution to cutting some ceramic tile border pieces.
I needed to frame a dip in the wall tile for my kitchen and decided it was best to cut 45 degree corners; 2 inside and two outside. I just have a cheap wet saw, so I cut two low fences, two bottom pieces and two different 45 degree pieces of wood- I only had a few cuts and didn’t think I would ever need to do it again, so I went with some hardboard and dried them off after each cut and they held up fine. Here’s a couple pictures: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736384253.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736384294.jpg |
With a friend's help, I moved Mom's old fridge out, by request prior to closing of the prospective new owner. Took it to my storage unit - that has electric. Thing works fine. Doesn't even make any noise. These older appliances are built!
Oh BTW....appliance dolly rental.....only $10.65 from U-Haul! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736453435.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736453435.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736453435.JPG |

Hi Everyone,
This is Melanie from Pelican Parts! First of all, I love the thread topic and also enjoy fixing things rather than just consuming and throwing away. There was some discussion about Wera Tools and I just wanted to let you all know that we do carry Wera Tools in our online catalog here: https://www.pelicanparts.com/byb-wera-tools In terms of what I'm fixing today... I fixed my teapot handle today after a little screw and grommet came loose. That could've been bad :/ Have a great weekend everyone! |

Good job on your teapot handle! :p |

Well heck.....looks like more brake work for the Silverado. Ran up to Harbor Freight this morning, back to my storage unit with a new lift table, then down to one of my accounts to do a few things before dark. Upon leaving - brake pedal goes down. Only one circuit working. Compromised line? Will find out tomorrow....

I replaced the spring plates and bushings on the 911 today. I need to torque down everything, clean it up, drop it and see if I got it right….

One of the less straight forward jobs on this pa12 is figuring out this headliner situation. This fuse frame has been welded for alot of skylight glazing. Which isn't desirable for us, not to mention the added weight. The rub.... no one makes a headliner for fuselages with the cathedral bracing modification. So, i managed to get the bows fabricated from brake line (original style bows bent from piper channel are nla these days. Then we massaged into some degree of uniformity. I'm using the old liner as my first pattern. No one makes a commercial liner for a cathedral braced -12, the cathedral braced 12 headliner will have long triangular tails that will attach down the cathedral bracing on both sides, this will allow for a triangular hinged (or not) access panel to the elt shelf and aux baggage.
In any case, I'm sewing the second pattern from cheap vinyl first then I'll the build the final headliner from certified material, while using the first for the final tweaks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736855283.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736855283.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736855283.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736855283.jpg |
My daughter owns a beauty salon and the thermostat on the water heater has gone bad. So dad is up to replace it. Not a big job.

I have a hard enough time just installing a headliner in a car from a kit! So, now that you've done all the work and have all those patterns, would this be a profitable item for your company to sell? Maybe just the braces and the pattern for the fabric? Seems a shame to not let other owner/builders take advantage of your hard work! |
It's something I'll offer. But most guys with these mods opt for the glazing.
