Just please, please, please promise me you never use 3 and 1 on these old ladies... lube them with proper lube.

We also have two Singers from the 60's which apparently are the end of 'all metal construction'. They are about $300 locally. |

I really enjoy working on them as they only need a good cleaning and re-oiling. It's amazing that there are almost no adjustments that can be made. Everything just works in sync. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1733926876.jpg |

I ran a sewing machine repair shop out of the back of a hardware store and was taught by a master, the Lilly white is highly refined and has the perfect viscosity to properly lube the machines. It was common to have to use acetone to clean old machines caked with 3-1 oil, it gums over time. The real sewing machine oils keep the machines free from gum up.. just use air to blow out lint, one drop of oil from a small long neck dropper and your done. Those feather weights and others can actually burn out motors from gum up. Those phaff's are more like tanks than singers... never used auto oil to lube though.

I've been using parts cleaner with a cloth behind to catch the old oil when I put a little air to it.
Most of the machines my wife has been sending to Ghana. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734014717.jpg |
The only Pfaff machine my wife has that I'm allowing myself to get close to is this one:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734023169.JPG Her others are all computer driven and way beyond my capability to help with short of cleaning out the fuzz that gets in them. |
Here's your next challenge, sewing machine enthusiasts: Find and restore an circular knitting machine designed in the 1870's.

I just sold a model 99 had to hose that thing down to get it running again. I prefer my model 15 doesnt have a belt to deal with. My grandmother got it for her graduation gift in 1950

Is it like rebuilding a 24 cylinder radial engine?
Atm I have 3 V8s in Bryans racing engine room. All get tuned on the Westec dyno but Steve Brule retired. So both race cars get fresh V8s --- soon. Future home to 650hp 23 degree period correct. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734123092.jpg Future home to 725hp 18 degree. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734123126.jpg no winter racing here. :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734123147.jpg <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RiA2xVe1Cd0?si=1oT8Ccfeu_EPoZXj" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Today was just an oil change on the duramax truck.
Hitting the grease zerks is something I don't look forward to. Some of those frackers are hard to get to... Hope the truck is happy with the effort. Dropped the full bucket at the oil drop for recycling after. |
Rethinking the rear flares on my 330. They are too low and look ugly. I mocked up some cut up manila folders to look at different shapes.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734324070.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734324070.jpg I bought these stubby sockets on Amazon, to help me fix-it things later. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734324070.jpg |
Brule retired? Jeez, that's too bad. Lots of knowledge in that head.

Back to sewing machines for a second. A few years ago we were in downtown Boston and there was a store that had 75-100 old machines displayed in the window. I'm sure others on here have seen it.

PM time on my 2007 RX8 that I picked up over the summer with 28k on it. One owner car with good regular maintenance but it’s still a 17 year car. Oil in the diff and transmission, brake and clutch fluid flush, lithium battery, new all aluminum radiator, thermostat, radiator cap, overflow reservoir, silicone hoses, and coolant. Still need to pull off the ratty engine bay insulation thanks to a mouse years ago, and will probably try to get motor mounts done while I’m on vacation for Christmas. Next big project will be new front lower control arms to fix a clunk and Ohlins DFV coilovers.

I made a badge for my vintage vise. I just couldn't help myself.
(I know - the punctuation is wrong, but that's how the factory did it in the 1970's.) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734472438.jpg |

Love the Wilton badge, Herr Oberst! :)
Today I replaced the washer water valves at Mom's house that we have on the market. Sprayed with WD-40 yesterday and with 2 crescent wrenches they came off OK today. Did not need any heat, although I had my mini-butane torch with me. ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734561595.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734561595.JPG |
Not a real good photo of them - they're just hanging here until I can get them out into the gardens. Air plants I mounted onto pieces of palm trunk with aluminum wire hangers. I have another big batch of them not pictured. Hope to get them all re-located by end of week.

Baz, bold move replacing valves! Were those leaking or did you just replace them as a wear item?
I'm happy for you that it turned out! |
i should be finishing assembly my m96 and transmission.

I had removed both washer and dryer and thats when I discovered one was not shutting off so I had to do it. Changed both out, even though only one was defective. Was very pleased it worked out so well. Can't help but think the WD-40 spray/soak the day before was really helpful! I mean.....look at that...... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734652095.JPG |
Yeah, that could have gone pear-shaped in a big hurry, with multiple trips to the hardware store and drywall to replace and paint..
|

Maybe not fun, but you seem to have a knack! Arrow straight.

Not quite but it's an improvement. My grandson and buddy slopping on the new generation of MC-less stripper. It's ok but nothing close to as effective as the toxic hyper thixotrooic stripper of years past. Ensconced bureau wonks outlawed it back in April so now only military contractors get to use MC stripper "help im being oppressed!" everything takes longer costs more and is in general a much bigger pia. I'm told that's progress.
Oh well at least my grandson has something to do aside from gaming! :D The airplane is my brothers 61 Comanche, and were stripping through 5 layers in places. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734891782.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734891782.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734891782.jpg |
I haven't seen MC stripper up here in Portland in as long as I can remember.
|
MC stripper was available last year to the professional and industrial sector. If I'd had better resources or known this tool would be eliminated from my available tools list, I'd have purchased a 250 gallon tote of it. Sorry for any offense taken, (if any) Any way, ive self edited the last post... I'm sick to death of having to work harder and pay more for the privilege without actually getting a say on the subject. Just observational griping.
I ended up with socomores sea to sky stripper... it's $150-ish for a fiver tub shipping for 2 buckets was $90. Another outfit had a pesto colored one that works similarly for $375 a bucket (tested a sample head to head). An outfit out of Oklahoma sells "sunset strip".... they're pretty proud of it at $430 a gallon... they sell no samples. Anyway you slice it less for more compared to MC stuff. |

Merry Christmas! |
Laid a pallet of sod today. Had to be wheel-barrowed - which means handling it double!
Anyhoo....beyond thrilled to have my Silverado back in great running condition plus me feeling well enough to power through jobs again! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735258993.JPG |
Little bit of weight on the Chebbie there, Baz!
Glad you were feeling up to it. How's your back today? Best Les |

Agree about the weight. Last time though......it was a 500 SF pallet - this time only 400 SF. I don't haul sod like I used to so exceptions are do-able! Happy 2025! SmileWavy |
Installed a keyless entry to my 911. As I was getting ready to tap into the two wires for the actuators, I saw that somebody had installed a keyless entry at one time and left two wires. I connected to them and everything works.
Well, everything doesn’t work. The electric door lock for the passenger door, isn’t working properly. |
New steering wheel in the 911. It brings it closer to me and being a little smaller, making it easier to get out
