Got this Buick for free on friday. Saved it by a matter of minutes from going to the junk yard. Lady who we do work for on her cars and stuff. She drove it 12 miles to the shop with the strut collapsed onto the nearly new tire on the highway. So it needs struts and a tire and brakes. She gave us a car once already that we ended up fixing and selling back to her for a few hundred bucks. But I dont think she wants this one back. Im tempted to keep it. Nice and luxurious inside.

Fuel pump on my Z06 not working some of the time. Mechanic couldn’t get it not to work. Happened again today. Found a burnt fuel pump wire. It’s melted in there, I can’t move it. It’s getting towed to the mechanic tomorrow and he’ll deal with it.
According to Dr. Google this a common issue with the C6.

Replaced the back up camera on my F150 today. It’s been wonky and I’ve been putting it off.

Cutting dead ash tree with my stihl ms251. blade got pinched so i grabbed another saw and let it go. Well it fell it smashed the hell out of the saw. Broke all 3 handles. The throttle handle is part of the gas tank and that had a blowout. $120. in parts later and it will be ok again. Stupid games win stupid prizes or something? Its my favorite saw so I cant let it die. I found it on the curb for free when it was nearly new. The guy left the brake on and melted the clutch and oil pump. So alot of parts have been replaced already. Still better than a husky

Thanks - it reminded me a bit of my late Mom's '08 Taurus. Not because it looked like it but because it looked very similar to what they produced in family sedans back then. This one only has 24K on the clock......

Dropped the Silverado off this morning to do a few things.

1. Replace broken driver door handle

2. Replace plugs/wires

3. Remove all bed bolts, smear with Never Seize, and re-install with enough force that I could remove myself with my ratchet wrench

4. lube all suspension points

5. replace trailer hitch

I provided the plugs/wires and trailer hitch.

Was charged $487. Happy to pay to have someone do all this in this weather & without a lift. Gotta keep my work truck going! He said he's never heard an engine sound as quiet and run as smoothly as mine. 244K miles so far....

My mechanic pointed out I need a new drive shaft support, outer tie rods, and steering rack boot....all of which I have already ordered and should be delivered next week.

It’ll take several what are you fix-it-ing today posts to see the start to finish. But it’s my DD, so not too long.

Was working on a 911sc putting it back together after it came back from paint earlier this week. Installing some new gas ranges at the apartments. I used to have my plumber do it, but they come when they have time, and charge me $200+.

A930Rocket 08-17-2025 10:19 AM

Got the new engine in the garage. At 90* and sunny, it was hot. 🥵

That’s it for today. Definitely need to wait for cooler weather to install it.

How did you get it out of your truck? Hoist? Ramp?

Would love more details, if you get a sec....thanks!

Stock Ford 5.0 reman engine. They don’t make crate engines and the remans are hard to come by. I found this one from a fellow member on a F150 forum who works at a dealer in WI.

I used an engine hoist. It was in a box, which I hope to keep, but the engine lift would not go high enough.

I ended up, lifting the engine, just enough to clear the bed and tailgate, then pulled the truck forward, rather than trying to pull the hoist engine away from the truck.

Then lowered it down on the dolly I made.

My first attempt to lift it covered with the box below.

Is the engine going in ASAP? Or are you waiting for yours to fail? If you wait, my guess is you will never install the new one...

Ha! That’s what I’m afraid of…. it never failing and I have a new engine waiting to go in.

So, I’d like to wait for an extended period of cooler weather to work on it. I’ll plan on a week to install it but hopefully it’s less.

I’ve been looking online for how to and parts to replace with new “while I’m in there”. I’d like to get it as ready as possible without much down time. Some things like the intake I’ll reuse and it goes on after the engine is in.

HobieMarty 08-18-2025 10:21 AM

When I got the replacement engine for the RX300, I went ahead and had a new timing belt and tensioner installed along with a new water pump before the engine was installed. You may want to do something like that I guess.

Nice! I used one when I moved the safe from my late Mom's house into my storage unit. Had the same problem with getting it high enough but after re-configuring the top fastener, I barely got it to go. Took the door off first to lighten things a bit.....

I bought my '02 Silverado in '05 w/90K miles on it. It now has approx. 244K miles. Vortec 4.6L. I was worried about having to replace my engine once it reach 150K miles, but then I learned that these engines are not like the engines "we grew up with"!

She still runs great - hardly any oil usage. My mechanic said it's the most smooth running and quiet GM engine he has ever heard.

I have always been very diligent about oil & filter changes. I change my oil, whenever it starts to get dark looking. I don't go by mileage. And believe it or not - I always use Fram oil filters.

Last fall, I replaced all of the belts, tensioners, cooling system parts/hoses, heater hoses, etc. I’ll reuse them. It comes with a new water pump, so I’ll keep my old one as a spare.

For sensors, if it doesn’t come with it, I’ve ordered new.

I bought a new alternator, as I still have the original one with 235K miles on it.

About the only thing I’m not replacing is the throttle body and the coil/cops. I’ll probably replace the cops sooner than later.

.

I saw a heavy duty, 4000 lb engine lift for $200 on FBMP yesterday. The hydraulic cylinder probably needs to be replaced, but I’m tempted….

Except for the low oil pressure, the engine runs great. Good gas mileage for a v8, lots of power, doesn’t leak or burn oil.

I borrowed this one from my mechanic, who is only 5 minutes away. No way would I ever need one often enough to buy it. But I bet not everyone has two motorcycle lift tables for their bikes either! :p

Good to hear about your engine - wishing you continued success! SmileWavy

Needed a bracket for some handscrews that I like to have handy, but wanted them off the drill press stand. Junk wood from out of the scrap bin. This took an inordinate amount of time, probably spent close to two hours from start to finish. I thought it would take 10 minutes.

Its been a great work week. Started out the day with a fly out breakfast to Idaho.
I worked through a bunch of squaks today, we've put together a mockup assembly so I can now finish the trimming of the front glass as well as the final set-up of the boot cowl... the silver piece.
The pace is picking up and the paint process starts next week.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755914994.jpg

We’ve been having problems with our washing machine. It would start, add a little bit of water and then stop.

Check for codes and ordered the parts, which were part of the motor underneath the washing machine. Replaced those this morning and so far so good with an empty load wash going ….

With the fires burning less than 10 miles from here, the crews (over 100 personnel) are being fed at the old military training base. They put out a call for volunteers to help feed them and my wife said she couldn't go in and work in the big kitchen, but could make biscuits and cookies. Then there was a need for sturdy trays in which to transport the goodies. It would be great if they were reusable, but no great loss if they disappeared. I happened to have leftover flooring and shelf scraps, so with some rough measurements, turned these:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756052603.jpg

Into these:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756052660.jpg

Total outlay was about a half hour of time and 24 screws in the three trays. The first one already had biscuits in it when I took the pics.

Baz 08-24-2025 11:30 AM

My mechanic (Ivan) just called and said my truck is ready. I had dropped it off Friday morning for inner and outer tie rods, steering rack boots, and drive shaft support replacement.

Couple other minor things.

I'll pick it up in the morning.

I brought him the parts - so only $600 for labor.

And I got to catch up on other odds and ends around the house for the past few days.

Works for me! :)
