Bay Rum Aftershave

I used Dominica Bay Rum Aftershave for about ten years until I coudn't find it anywhere anymore. I absolutely loved the stuff, perfect smell, burn and feel. I decided to try my hand at making my own and it turned out really well. Next batch I will probably use half a stick of cinnamon instead of a whole stick. In a medium mason jar I mixed 3/4 of an airplane bottle of Captain Morgan's rum, 3 oz of Absolut Vodka, a table spoon of witch hazel, a couple drops of peppermint oil, a couple drops of eucalyptus oil, 3 oz of water, one broken up cinnamon stick, two cloves, pinch of fresh orange zest and 3/4 teaspoon of bay oil. I let it sit under the sink for a month, then strained it with cheese cloth. I am very pleased with how it turned out, but I still feel weird about rubbing rum and vodka on my face in the morning.
In case you are wondering, here is how I would rank the bay rum aftershaves I have tried to replace Dominica:
1. Kramperts - great burn and smell
2. Captain's choice - a little watered down and too much clove.
3. Grand bay - too watered down.
4. Barberry Coast - too much citrus, but great feel
5. Suavecito - too much rubbing alcohol, but it smells good.

Tim

It looks like Amazon sells it.

https://www.amazon.com/Captains-Choice-Original-After-Shave/dp/B0066GR55K/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Dominica+Bay+Rum+Aftershave&qid=1552929499&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I have never heard of it. But I do have a full beard and have had a beard since the 1970s.

I never understood the use of this stuff. Cologne, yes. Aftershave, no.

Why on earth does a burning sensation on your face feel good?

That would only be enough for one shave for me.
Prob wouldn't get much done the rest of the day.

I used to go to an old school barber - corner of NE Fremont and Sandy for the locals - who mixed their own.

It was cool. Sort of a trademark.

My kids tell me I smell like a cookie after I shave.

Cool that you make your own aftershave. I had never heard of such a thing.

I haven't used aftershave since high school. Our locker room smelled like a rum distillery, all those pubescent boys trying so desperately to get the attention of the girls.
