Maybe this would work with cars as well...?

Some scammer taking pics and trying to sell your car online might not be bothered by the police, but you could still sue them privately, even without a known 3rd party victim.
One of the bat mobiles was sold, but the photo right retained.
THE owner of the car cannot use it to make money off the pictures aparently, so there is precedent.

Oh, it's quite true. The ownership ranks change. Took me a spell, but I eventually decided I didn't belong among many of the early 911 owners. A totally different breed than during the fun years. So, it was time for me to move on. Life after Porsche ain't all that bad. Still lots of options out there.

Funny, I was cleaning up the 82 Targa today and had two people stop and ask how much. I live a pitching wedge from the edge of the flat Earth and still...

Headed out for a bath:

This guy was Hispanic and well dressed. He did not identify his brother. My car was there for less than a minute, so he was just driving by. Our area had a recent hail storm, and the roofing contractors are knocking on all the doors, and I have had about a dozen contractors call me. All of them want to inspect my roof.

The guy could well be just another roofer. Typical fly by night, follow the storm, out of state guys I would never do business with type. He acted like 50K was no big deal. Next time someone asks I will say 100K.

I have a class 4 hail resistant roof. My roofer came out, looked and saw no real damage, but said I should wait for a few hot days to see if any granules let go of the tar. I have good insurance, so if it has to be replaced, it is just the noise and mess for a few days and done.

Hey Dave,

Long time.

I think everyone should call that number and leave a message, tell them you have a Porsche to sell. Meet at Los Feliz Blvd & Riverside Dr on Sunday and then hang up.

I get asked about twice a month about the '82. Always seems to be kids in the proverbial appliance with a soup can exhaust, apparently willing to pay anything. I think they just bird dog for one of several local slimeballs.

We call them roof gypsies. We have tree gypsies too, and driveway gypsies who want to reseal your driveway (with colored water). They just drive around looking for an opportunity to make a buck. They hit and run, so substandard work is their hallmark.

this happened to me yesterday

I left the garage door open and some kid stops and knocks on my door

he tells me some BS story of his dad dieing a few years ago and they had to sell his old 911 and now he wants to buy one now (mine)

he asks how much I want and I tell him $30k and he kinda still pretends to be interested but he doesn't try talking me down

I eventually tell him its not for sale and he leaves after inquiring about buying my suburban (which is a complete POS cosmetically but a functioning truck)

These cars are becoming unobtanium so I'm starting to have concerns about security. The car isn't running right now and the wheels are off. I keep a pad lock on the inside of the garage door and there is only one key. I also have an alarm on the house.

I really have to remember to keep my garage door closed for these people

This has happened to me more times than I can count.... price I pay for actually driving air cooled 911's. My response now is; you're about the 500th person that has asked and I still have the car.... your offer is? Then, that stupid look on their faces when the know 1- I'm a wisea$$ that's too much trouble to deal with 2- only a ridiculous amount of money will take the car. I also photograph the potential buyer and his vehicle. Surprisingly some don't like being photographed .

You need to up your 'reasonable' number by at least $25k.

If some is going to give me nearly 6 figures for a non turbo 80's air cooled 911, they can have it.

Ha - only happens when I take one of my vintage cars or motorcycles to my mechanic. He works on a LOT of exotics.

So funny he always asks if I want to sell it (it being whatever I'm driving/riding).

Had someone offer to buy the car I was working on in the drive. Told him it wasn’t for sale to which he responded, I’ve got cash. Trying to drive the point home I said, you don’t have enough cash. At which point he got all snotty with me and wanted to know how much. Told him it wasn’t for sale again and he sped off.

If I was even remotely interested in selling the car( I’m not) someone who tries to pick a fight wouldn’t be the person I sold to.
