Unreadable on my iPad.
The site looks like something from the 90s.
Get a copy of Wordpress and spend an hour reading a for dummies guide. Use a mobile friendly skin. It’ll be 1000% better.

First of all - thank you to everyone who has replied. Thank you to those who replied where the site hasn’t loaded properly. This is great information.

The site loads properly on every device in our house, my work computer, etc. I’ve tested in in Chrome, Safari, and Edge on multiple platforms including laptops, an iPad, iPhones, and a Samsung tablet.

I agree when it doesn’t load properly, it looks like something I would have done in 95 or 96... I tested it on one of those website that give a screen capture on every browser... some look good and others are a mess.

I’m going to call godaddy tomorrow to get this sorted out. I built it with their web tools.

The gallery and contact info are all that are needed. Looks great and I imagine you are flooded with inquiries....

I would remove any personal information about your family.

Maybe I'm a bit slow, but why the need for the website? What's wrong with posting it in the traditional sources. Seems like a lot of effort for little extra return.

madcorgi 03-31-2019 02:13 PM

It's kind of dark on my MacBook Pro with Chrome. Nice site, though.

mepstein 03-31-2019 03:13 PM

Looks bad on my mac pro. The reason why people post on established sites is because they already have tens of thousands of viewers. why go back to the 90's. It's like opening a store in the woods vs a busy road.

Why not list on BAT? It costs you $100 the buyer pays the rest.

At least approach them? IF you do not like the terms they dictate you say no.

My buddy was going to list a pristine E30 Vert he found on CL for very cheap. He cleaned it up, tuned it up, did the usual maintenance and approached BAT. They said they were not interested. Which was a mistake, 3 weeks later they listed this cars clone for sale.

He is now selling his 1991 M3 and said he will not list with BAT out of spite.

So, in the end, what do you have to lose? Give em a shot if they say no or dictate terms you do not like then no loss on your part.

The potential is getting top $$ for your car with no work on your part except answering questions from bidders on there.

General comments:

Lose the crash bar and yellow foglight on the front of the car.

The artsy photos are nice (well, some of them are worth keeping) but you need to photograph the car in detail, in one place. Don't just use whatever photos you have on your computer. There needs to be a section where the entire car is photographed, at one time, in one spot.

Don't use any photos of your other cars, track events, or anything extraneous.

More detailed history on the car needed.

Good luck.

This and this. ^^

Artsy websites devoted to your car do nothing to bring interest and $$. As JR correctly states, you don't even have good photos, (detailed, close-up), showing the actual condition of it. Study BAT listings for the gold standard in what people want to see in photos of a car they buy based on photos.

The more relevant info about your specific car, the better. Records, etc. It's all about marketing but that means listing it in the proper venues and presenting it well, which I covered above. BAT would definitely list this car w a reserve that reflects the latest data on early 930 pricing.

BAT is somewhat of a curated site, though they have been casting a wider net lately for cars to list. They make a lot on buyer's fees. I'm going through the process of listing a car on their site as we speak, they ask a LOT of questions before determining if they want the car on their site.

My guess is that an E30 convertible that someone bought on CL a month prior is not in their wheelhouse. If it was a decent Alfa GTV or C2 Corvette, they would not care if he just pulled it from a donation lot. It all depends on the car and the circumstances. They are fighting to keep their site interesting while also increasing the scope of what they will sell, not the worst problem for a business to have.

javadog 03-31-2019 04:03 PM

I've sold 2 turbos here on Pelican, at zero cost.

I understand. Except he purchased almost a year earlier and went through the car with a fine toothed comb. When he was listing it for sale it was pristine needing nothing.

I cannot remember the prices now, painting rough strokes here, he paid somewhere around 5K for it. BAT turned their noses up to him.

He listed on CL for 12K and got 11K for it a year later. He invested another 1K in maintenance and cosmetic work. He cleared 5K on it.

Now, his E30 M3, he purchased for 12K (yes twelve thousand) in 2010 when blood was running in the streets. I drove him to the car in Atlanta, I would guess the guy was selling to make mortgage payments.

He is now thinking he can sell for 35K easy, BAT is not on his radar, they pissed him off with the Vert and how they handled him.

So, yes, you are correct a lowly E30 Vert is not in their wheelhouse, EXCEPT 3 weeks later they listed an identical car to his. Which pissed him off more. It was also an obvious flip car.

All that said, I would still consider them for listing a car like a 930.

I personally think my friend is making a mistake not using them. They do command a premium.

unclebilly 03-31-2019 04:21 PM

The reason for the website is to establish that I am not a flipper. This car likely won’t be sold locally so Craigslist and Kijiji are not the right avenue.

I do plan to have the car at Luftgekult.

Sooner or later 03-31-2019 04:39 PM

You going to poat an ad on Pelican?

Brando 03-31-2019 04:52 PM

Ugh... Godaddy Site Builder... :shudder:

Want me to spin up a WordPress site for you real quick?

Unreadable on Windows 8 with Chrome or IE... And I can't believe that domain name was available!!!!! But I agree with BAT.. Probably the best place for it. So much less hassle.

RKDinOKC 03-31-2019 05:56 PM

Unclebilly,

Done this with 4 different vehicles. Built a site with an honest description and reason for selling with honest comprehensive pictures AND point out any issues. Then posted ads on other sites like autotrader, cars.com, PP, etc. In those ads just put one nice picture, listed what the car is and price and include text a prospective buyer could copy/paste into their web browser for more info if interested.

The web sites I created are linked to below.

90 928 GT

944 Turbo

Old Range Rover

CayenneS

Listed a fair market value asking price. Could easily tell if contacted thru the ads by scammers or tire kickers because they asked questions that would have been answered if they had visited the web site. Every vehicle was sold within 3 months at or very near the asking price.

Most of my sites I took the asking prices off because I kept getting calls despite saying sold.

sugarwood 03-31-2019 06:04 PM

Just my opinion, but I would not even bother responding to an ad from a seller who built a website.

1) It is almost a guarantee of a crack pipe asking price from a seller who thinks he owns a 250 GTO.
That is why there is no asking price.

2) It may also be a sign of a "vanity sale", where the seller is more interesting in interviewing people and marketing the car rather than making a quick sale.
Like that guy in the Midwest who has a hoard of old 911's that he never sells. A serious seller would have posted on Facebook, 15 major CL cities, and on PP, and BAT.

The seller may be in denial, and not even realize it.
This "selling" is more of an event and process to him, rather than a transaction to get done.

My cynical guess is the car never sells.

A930Rocket 03-31-2019 06:24 PM

Did I miss the details of the car somewhere?

Needs more pictures of details.

Great looking 930!

And good luck!

Don't take this wrong but no one gives a schit how long you've had it or if you are a flipper. It's a collector market these days w collector pricing, it's worth XX dollars. If you think that you're going to get some puffed-up price for it because someone likes your website, you don't understand how cars change hands.

That's one data point. The website would not keep me from buying but what was shown is missing most of the relevant photos and of course the price, which are the two things that would get me to call or email. YMMV, as they say.
