My excitement for the day? Lifting a van off pedestrian

Wow.
You go to Costco to get gas. You don't expect to be lifting a minivan off someone run over and pinned underneath it.
Just as I'm finishing, I hear someone screaming "He's under the car!' and see a couple people running towards a van who's puled out of the gas station. The driver gets out, ad he's dumb-struck looking around for who he just ran over. I run over as well, and start lifting. There were maybe 5 or 6 of us trying to lift this Nissan Quest. And that's being generous.
His legs are pretzeled behind the tire. Twisted in a knot. He's 100% underneath. His face is pinned to the ground by something hot. It's melting.
Eventually, someone rolls a tire over to wedge under the front end. Then someone brings a jack... after about 10 minutes of us trying to keep the weight off this poor dude.
Just as the idiot with the jack figures out how to use it, the cops an, Fire Dept, and ambulance roll up.

When they got there and shooed everyone away, I moved the car away from the pumps and parked for a breather. After several minutes, a girl who was there came over. They managed to get him out. The guy's pretty f00ked. He face is... I'm just glad I didn't see that.
It's been several years since I've had any, but I need a beer.

A whole Costco gas station with dozens of people, and only 5-6 trying to lift this thing... if that.

geeze.

Thank you, Mr. Mcleod. For doing what everyone should but who, frighteningly, don't.

SHORELINE, WA - A pedestrian was run over and trapped under a car on Friday afternoon near Costco according to Shoreline fire.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. along the 1500 block of North 200th Street, which is right off Aurora Avenue. A bystander, Mr. WolfeMacleod lifted the car off the victim and held it aloft with one hand while administering CPR at the scene and freed the person from under the car in about three minutes.
The victim was taken to Harborview, but was reportedly alert and conscious by the time medics arrived.

Mr Macleod is being sued by the Harborview EMS for practicing medicine without a license. He is also being sued by the victim for botching a carefully planed suicide.
Mr Macleod was last seen sitting on the curb at a 7-Eleven drinking mass quantities of cheap beer out of a paper bag.

pptthhtht.
But you know, that was one of the things that came to mind afterwards. I mean... given the location, it would be damned difficult to get hit by a car unintentionally...

Worst way to off yourself imaginable unless the car is going at least 50 mph.

A well earned rest, indeed.

Thanks for pitching in.

Doing what you did is exemplary, and unfortunately not as common a trait as we would all like to think.

Well done.

I can't conceive of not helping in an instance like this. As for liability, isn't there a 'good Samaritan' law that protects individuals offering assistance in an emergency?

Well done, Mr. McCleod! Have a beer on us!

Good on ya Wolf for stepping up and doing what you could to help out. I hope you are not too sore afterwards, one can realy strain the bod in those moments.

It is alarming to see how many folks for what ever reasons will just hang back and watch when they are needed. It's hard to understand what it is that overpowers the natural inclination to try to help in a urgent situation. But clearly lots of folks react that way, sad.

Cheers Richard

I'm glad not to be reading that you ripped every muscle in your back and are now bed ridden with medical bills piling up.

You tried to do the right thing and lived to tell about.

Count your blessings and have a beer.

Good for you, Wolfe.

I won't go into details but I was the first on scene of a one car rollover. Driver was tossed out of car's side window and pinned face down into mud by the A pillar. I couldn't do anything by myself. A car came by and I flagged it down but they refused to help and drove off. I was pissed.

How did it happen, Wolfe? Someone just not paying attention and ran into the guy?

I have had to help lift a Suburban off a kid in a kart.

It is one of those gut wrenching things.

I'm not a medic, could probably never be.

Big props to those that are, they go through stress that normal folks can't imagine.

LWJ has the right of it.

If you don't want people standing around yell at them with instructions of what to do.

They will come around.

It is also natural to see someone moving to assist and make an assumption that that person can take care of it. If you that person moving to assist and know that it is not the case; yell for additional help.

This was gone over in the old lady fainting thread. Those others in the restaurant saw a person helping and would have assumed since the person helping did not ask for help that that person was competent to the task.

In a situation like this if you want additional help don't expect, ASK, and if outdoors like this situation, YELL.

The thing is, the people going stupid that LWJ mentioned goes both ways.
The person helping that needs more help has gone stupid and expects bystanders to see what they see even when they don't.
No communication, just frustration. Communicate the need for additional help.
