Time to introduce “Bertha” the blue Porsche

I know we are mainly an air cooled forum here and I get my air cooled fix from my VW, but this is still my Porsche home. Yes I’m a member of the other major site and go there too, but I have been posting here for much longer.

Based on lots of comments here and driving a few, I ventured to the water cooled 911 side with a 996TT back in 2015. While it was a great car and more capable than I could drive it, I never was in love with it. The 996TT ate the miles on the highway and made for a great daily driver if that is what someone was looking for. I wanted something a little more raw. I’ve had a ‘86 cab and a ‘92 964T, so I thought about a 993 and a few others.

I’ve been following lots of threads here and looked at a few cars. Was seriously thinking of getting a 930 or another 964T then a local Pcar dealer had 997.2 GT3 RS with a fair amount of track time and a decent price. Unfortunately when it popped up I was out of the county for business and wasn’t going to put a deposit down or anything without seeing it in person. It sold while I was gone of course, and by then I knew I had to look for another one.

Fast forward a while and this car came up for sale in MN. I liked that it was a different color than most of the ones I had seen. After speaking with the owner and hearing about the previous owners I was happy with the history of the car. I flew out to MN to look at it and met the owner (great guy) and decided to buy it.

My kids and I always name our cars, one of my sons favorite Grateful Dead songs is “Bertha”, so he suggested it as the name for this one and it stuck. Here are a few pictures right after it came out of the trailer from getting shipped here a few weeks ago. I’d be happy to answer any questions anyone has, it provides way more feedback while driving than the 996TT. My driveway is a mess, so look past that

I'm sure that is a wonderful car but red and blue hurt the eyes. Decal on left side and not the right? Perhaps you feel a bit like I do and already removed one.

It’s a 2010.

The factory put them on the front right and rear left Milt, the side decals have already been removed.

Gorgeous car, congratulations. I really, really like the blue, but then again, I'm biased - my '72 "R" tribute is Albert Blue.

I am normally more about subtlety - that red would usually kind of put me off. Way too attention getting, especially with the wing. Something about it on this car, though, really works - I love it.

Details? I have no idea what is "standard" on the RS version. Ceramic discs, of course? Floor mounted stick or floppy paddle shifter? Is that the stock wing? You know, stuff like that - fill us in...

I agree with you Jeff, at first I was really looking for a Grey one with the same red accents, but this blue is just so different from my other ones.

As for what was standard I’d have to look at the window sticker, but I do know they all came with a 6 speed MT, which was a requirement for me. The wing is standard and while pretty outlandish does work with the overall appearance of the car in my opinion.

It has the ceramic brakes, lightweight sport buckets, front axle lift, carbon fiber lighted door sills and a few other options. It was German delivery so it has a few German only safety things (road triangle etc) which are kinda cool.

It has a half cage in the back but since there aren’t seats in there that doesn’t bother me

Love it. Beautiful car. I'm a huge fan of Mezger engined 997s. Modern amenities with a race-proven drive train. Tough (after you pin your coolant pipes) and fun to drive.

I switched over a few years ago also. I started with an '03 996 and recently just got a new 991 GT3.. Its the most amazing piece of machinery I have ever driven. And yes, I wanted the PDK.. I still wanted an older air cooled car and bought an 84 SC last year to supplement but I only kept it for a few weeks. Just doesnt do anything for me anymore. I could probably see myself getting another 964/993, but nothing earlier than that as i would simply never drive it.

Thanks everyone. I am very happy with it.

Mine is a '78 Westfalia, there are a number of differences, the biggest and easiest to spot is the way the top opens. Mine opens at the front versus the rear opening ones of the low light Bay Windows.

The 991's are very capable Marc, what color did you get?

Sweet ride indeed! They are beyond my means, but are undoubtedly what I’d purchase if I won the lotto. My friend has a 2016 GT3 . . .

I still miss my 996TT and totally agree about it being more of a GT than a hardcore sports car. I’d love to daily drive one.

My older son has been daily driving his 996TT for about four years now. He absolutely loves it. When it's time to carve the backroads, though, or go to the track, he breaks out his '79 SC hot rod. The 996TT is plenty capable, of course, but like you guys are saying, it's more of a GT car than a cafe racer / track car. Horses for courses and all of that...

THAT car is fast. Even while being parked in the driveway. I love it.
