The Three idiots. Grand Tour. Over as we know it...
They announced tonight that after 17 years of working together it was time to close it down. They did say Amazon loves them and they love Amazon, and there WILL be future adventure type specials. I always enjoyed the treks, sad to see the show end but happy there will be more goofyness in the future.

That is the only TV I watch.
We watch this as a family on Friday nights. You can tell it’s coming to an end. Hammond is tired. May being the butt of the jokes is getting old. Jeremy always coming out on top... The boys have a unique and special chemistry. I love the show, it is good entertainment. Now do I keep my Prime membership going? That has yet to be seen.

I agree. I enjoyed their antics but they seemed strained 5 years ago, now they come across as desperate to be who they once were. It’s time to let it go.

Really should have titled this thread "Spoiler alert: The Grand Tour info" or similar. Ruins it for those of us who haven't seen the episode yet.

For me, it was strained and desperate 10 years ago as Top Gear. The first 2-3 seasons of TG were good because it was different and fresh. After that, how many times can you do the same old schtick?

They've had a great run and will always be in the hearts of car guys and even non-car people alike.
Great memories of watching the original Top Gear and Grand Tour.

I found them entertaining in the first few years but then I thought they jumped the shark . Too much goofing around and not enough car content . It became tiring for me to watch but there still was some entertainment value just not as much for me . They had a good run , I'm sure they are all millionaires and set for life .

They had a great run! Fingers crossed top gear can find a good buddy for Chris Harris sooner rather than later..

The stuff outside the tent are really the only reason I watched. If they do those as specials now and then I would be happy.
On a side note, they announced this quite a while ago.

Yup. I’m a huge fan, started watching BitTorrent downloads via Finalgear years ago because BBC didn’t carry the show. But it’s just a tired act at this point. I agree that I would love to see them do more documentary type shows, the segments they have done on Grand Tour have been excellent. Lost in all the nonsense is that all three are excellent automotive journalists.

The trip to the north pole during the Top Gear years is one of my favorites.
The old car Lancia and Porsche segments were good. Though I would have liked to see them run an original Stratos around the ring.

The episode on the Lancia 037 rally season beating Audi was pure gold... The Jim Clark thing was moving.... The 917 also pretty good. If they did more historical stuff like that, even just one of them speenting, no travelling required - it would be great to watch !

I am late to the party, started streaming video a few months back and got hooked on Grand Tour... never got into Top Gear, seemed kinda silly to me.
Also loved the Jim Clark presentation, would love to see more historic stuff like that. Haven't seen the 917 episode yet, looking forward to that. Tried watching James May's 'Toy Stories' it was interesting but a little slow without Clarkson's snarkyness and Hammonds goofy antics.

Might be tired -- but what replaces it anywhere in the car world???. I think most of the now Motortrend stuff is tired and repeats from show to show, Still I like the auto content but how many times can one watch phoney -stress to meet some ridiculous deadline.

Several years ago, before the "Grand Tour", we all sat around and bemoaned on a certain p-car forum how their Top Gear antics were getting long in the tooth.
I think it is absolutely amazing they were able to get several more years of good laughs out of Grand Tour. It's one of the few shows my wife and I could tune in and both laugh until it hurt, even if it was somewhat staged. Good for them! Job well done. It was also interesting reading how Jeremy Clarkson was really upset about his original Top Gear departure. The show obviously really meant a lot to him. I think at this point, My wife and I could equally watch an "After Grand Tour/Top Gear" series where these specific three old farts sit around in a hot tub, reminisce, and pull each other's fingers and cringe at the power of each other's impacted fart bubbles as they rise to the surface of the cauldron. It was in the end- good chemistry. |
