Update. Got my dad a Siemens / Signa hearing aid, for <$100. He likes it! So much that he's going to make an appointment with his doctor for an audiologist referral. So that's really good news for us and I want to thank everyone for your help.

Good to hear.

Do any of the bluetooth ones now have mics in them? My girlfriend's mom will be talking on speaker, then set her phone down and walk away from it... so she can still hear us, but we can't hear her.

Glad he to hear he likes it. Less than $100 is great. The last set we did for our son was over $15K, but that included a Roger pen that can link to tablets and TVs.

New Tech Hearing Aids

I did some searching and couldn't find anything current posted in forum.

At 56 my hearing is like most, A few too many Rock Concerts and Chainsaw noise has dampened my hearing.

Costco or Other places have various aids.

I'm sure it's def "you get what you pay for"

But say I don't want the latest with Blue Tooth and App control.

What's a good middle class solution?

The technology is changing very rapidly. What you should do is get a formal audiological evaluation to see exactly how impaired you are. Then determine what your goals are. The features and costs are wide open.

An audiologist should be able to point you in the right direction.

I have been using MDHearing.com aids for years and like them. They have a setting for 500, 1000, and 1500 mghz. Experiment til you find the right setting.

This, as my father aged his hearing got really bad (as did his vision), then he got dementia, so he lost many pairs of hearing aids. Luckily he was a vet so some of it was covered by that and the Gov.

They never really worked that well as to the type of hearing loss he had

Not great timing, but in 12 years its the first one destroyed. My sisters dog pulled it off his ear and ate it. She did tell me she wouldn't send us a vet bill.

Phonak is covering this under their 3 year warranty. We have to pay a deductible, but not the $1700 for the hearing aid and the $1800 for the FM receiver. I know what brand we will by when we replace this pair.
