Oklahoma casinos are raking it in
The WinStar in Thackerville is the world's largest casino. 600,000 sq ft of gambling space which is over twice as much as the MGM Grand in Vegas. Now the Choctaw casino in Durant is starting a half billion dollar expansion.
That's a lot of Texas money moving north. I have never been to either but I have heard they are both shockingly nice. Last edited by Sooner or later; 04-29-2019 at 10:04 PM.. |

There's two things in this life I've never been able to understand the allure of: One of them is fishing, the other is gambling. I've done enough of both to know that they just bore the s#i! right out of me. But, some people just can't get enough. Good for them!

Wow. We were separated at birth. The only thing worse would be gambling on a Bass Fishing Tournament.

![]() I have a horse racing track about 6 miles south of me. In 30+ years I have been twice. They also have a casino, never been inside. We have the lottery here. I have yet to buy a ticket. Of course when gambling was on the ballot it was going to solve the budget issues with education, and all teaches would get a huge raise. It never happened. Same thing with the lottery. I don't know how much we take in with the gambling, but I like it. I consider it a tax on the math impaired, and stupid people.

In all honesty, I'd rather see state or Federal governments own the casinos. Let Marriott or whoever run the thing, but the owner is only allowed to be the state. This was the money _could_ help reduce taxes.
In the old days, voluntary lotteries made of the majority of the funding for governments.

I'm not much of a fisherman, but I've been known to drop $20 or $30 over a weekend in Vegas or Laughlin! Done it several times.
I remember one time when I was in my twenties I lost nearly $40 over 2 days. That's when I knew it was time to cut back. Note that it was probably the first $40 I ever earned too. |

When we went to Travers City, MI several years ago we stayed at a hotel-casino for a few days. To walk in the front door of the hotel the stench of cigarettes was overwhelming. Once we got to our room it was OK. One day I had an hour to kill so I wandered down to the casino and the cigarette stink was so bad I could not go in. We changed hotels ASAP and got away from the casino.
When we were in French Lick, IN they had a casino there. Once again we were waiting on a bus tour and I had some time. I wondered in and tried to figure out how to throw away 5 bucks on a slot machine. I was successful, poof gone, and total waste of time. At least the cigarette stink was much less, since it was mid afternoon and the place was mostly empty. I can't image how anyone could work there that was not a smoker, or had no sense of smell.

Haven't been there in 15 years but I remember you could barely see across the casino, and it seemed like 1/10th of all the customers were towing oxygen tanks around. I've been told that the more a casino stinks the better it pays off. But I've been told a lot of things over the years. |

But it was expensive, what with them charging by the inch for the fish. |

Casinos
Oneida Indians own the big casino in our area (Turning Stone). Plenty of upset people around when they started buying up property and not paying taxes. They still don’t. Give ‘gifts’ to deserving counties, school districts who don’t badmouth them. They own a few gas stations as well, their own gas, their own inspectors, their own police force who have been given authority to stop people for traffic violations. Plenty of pissed off people about that...Have never been or care to go to that casino, ever.

Me three. Although when I had to kill time at a conference in Vegas, I figured out that I could drink for free when I played the penny slots! (I did tip--I'm not a jerk).

The indian casino on the Oregon coast hosts the western BCA 8 and 9 ball championships, adding to the prize money. Smart of them, since many pool players love to gamble. I go once in a while to watch the pool action. Find it interesting to see all those white folks willingly paying for the sins of their ancestors...

Last May at graduation time for our son in CT, we decided to run over to the Mohegun Sun. Got there about 10-11 am and it was sad. People hanging around drinking and smoking. We walked around for about an hour and left.
It felt dirty and disgusting. Quote:

I was in Minnesota a couples of years back helping with a Solar Food Truck. The work was on the reservation, so they put me up in the Casino Hotel. I guess they figured I'd drop my money in the casino.
