332 MPH on sand?

Doesn't seem right. https://www.motor1.com/news/351411/fastest-car-on-sand-record/

I would be worrying about rust from the wet sand, so I won't be attempting to break that record .
Have raced on sand in a landyacht and it was very bumpy and
messy

The car has a bespoke 4.1-liter race engine with new internals, gearbox, clutch and drive shafts, along with an upgraded E85 fuel system and sophisticated charge cooling set-up to stop engine detonation. It also has an upgraded PDK transmission and altered suspension to allow it to clear the sand...................

"The Porsche behaves very differently on sand than tarmac," he said. "The sand creates a lot of resistance and tire slip. In the end, we could only use 850 hp (1,000 hp at the engine) to avoid too much wheel spin, compared to just 533 hp (engine) from a factory car."

Eisenberg's records not only follow on from his hero Campbell, who first set the record at Pendine Sands in 1927 (174.8 mph/ 281.3 kph) in the iconic Blue Bird – a record that stood for nearly 90 years, but it also beat the one previous record set by actor Idris Elba in 2015.
Very interesting, and it doesn't look too exotic aerodynamically speaking.

They put all the effort into the mechanicals.

EDIT: back in Feb 2019 this is the image they used (see below).

Zef Eisenberg and MADMAX Race Team to attempt 'fastest car on sand' record
https://www.racecar.com/News/90237/Motorsport/Zef-Eisenberg-and-MADMAX-Race-Team-to-attempt-fastest-car-on-sand-record

Quote:
It got Zef thinking, so after meticulous research into what would be needed to top 200mph on sand, Eisenberg settled on a 2015 550hp Porsche 911 Turbo S. There was just one problem: Although this car is very fast, it will ‘only do 175mph’ in a mile on Tarmac. To achieve 200mph on tarmac within a mile would, the car would need 750bhp at the wheels. Sand creates a lot of resistance and tyre slip, so we worked out that we’d need at least 1000 bhp at the rear wheels, which equates to a crazy 1200hp at the engine, compared to just 550hp from the factory.

The MADMAX race team therefore hand built a bespoke 4.2-litre Porsche motorsport engine with new stronger internals, upgraded Turbo’s, plus a new E85 fuel system, advanced cooling set-up and far more. A lot of work was done to ensure that the monstrous power would come in as smoothly as possible in order to limit wheelspin on the loose surface. To cope with such an extreme output, the gearbox and clutch needed to be extensively upgraded, and the brakes and suspension modified to allow for different wheels and tyres.

I'm having trouble finding a Porsche that has broken 200 and the salt flats.
Of course, there is always some chick breaking 183- on a bicycle

I'll go ahead and say it. I don't believe that that car went 332 mph on sand.

232 mph would be hard to believe.

Yeah, I think this is poor reporting, and it was 332kph on sand, not 332mph. In one of the articles, it talks about a goal of 200mph on sand and needing 750hp to go 200mph on tarmac, but needing 1000hp on sand to do the same. Apparently, they were able to get the engine up to 1200hp, but then had to run it at 1000hp (850 at the wheels) due to being on sand. There's no way that they managed 300mph on sand with the motor detuned. And 332kph is just a bit over 200mph. And they've credited the guy with being the only guy that's gone over 200mph on sand on a motor cycle and in a car.

^^^ That makes sense.

This vid recently made the 997TT forums. I'm blown away by how fast the 997 turbo can be made to run. It's a beast.

As mentioned in the Feb 2019 article I posted earlier:

Actor Idris Elba breaks historic 'Flying Mile' record in a Bentley
Friday 08 May 2015
https://www.bentleymotors.com/en/world-of-bentley/the-bentley-story/news/2015-news/idris-elba-breaks-historic-flying-mile-speed-record-.html
Quote:
Idris Elba, star of Luther and The Wire, piloted a Bentley to break the historic ‘Flying Mile’ UK land speed record set by Sir Malcolm Campbell in 1927.

The award-winning actor hit a top speed of 180.361 mph at the wheel of a new Continental GT Speed on Pendine Sands, Wales. This broke the existing record of 174.8 mph set by Sir Malcolm nearly 90 years ago in his legendary Napier-Campbell Blue Bird.

Powered by Bentley’s iconic 6-litre twin-turbo W12 engine, the GT Speed develops 635 PS and 820 Nm for instantly accessible high performance. Coupled with a new ZF eight-speed close-ratio automatic transmission and state-of-the-art engine management software, the GT Speed despatches the zero-to-sixty sprint in 4.0 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 206 mph. Discover the Continental GT Speed detailed specification here.
The Porsche must have went over 180.361 mph, but not +300 mph.

Group911 was right to say something didn't sound right.

332 MPH on sand?

Yea, m
Just the aerodynamics of 300+ is not something a car without some big spoilers and wings can touch. Most civil aviation single engine piston powered aircraft can’t touch 300 and they don’t have to worry about a dog or rock on the road.
