Okla under the gun for severe weather

It could get terribly bad here. Long track devastating tornadoes a strong possibility. Any Sooners south and west of I 40/I 35 need to be prepared. . Softball sized hail not out of the question.

The area extends a little north and east of the interstates but that gives an idea of the area of highest risk.

Should be firing up within a couple of hours.

Yea, they just upgraded tornado possibility from high to extreme. The storm trackers are flooding into the area, and the TV stations will go to "wall to wall" or continuous coverage with no commercials, not regular programming, just storm coverage.

We have our GO bags ready, a dog bed in the shelter as well as our stuff. Hopefully we will just watch it all on TV and stay alert like all the other 60+ years.

The flooding is going to be be along the creeks, rivers and low lying areas as always. Our house is on a hill, so no worries here. Flooding kills many times more people and does way more damage than any other storm damage. Look at the damage from Canada to the Gulf and see the massive flooding. This storm will just make that a lot worse. We are expecting 6 or 7 inches of rain today. The storm will continue on northeast to the Great Lakes region. It will dump a lot of rain on people and the rivers will flood again.

Not a good day to be unaware.

This was just posted on another board. He works for NWS. I am in the muggy area.

"It’s locked in, guys. If it is currently, or later becomes, warm and muggy where you are, you’re in one of the most dangerous tornado environments in known history. Be safe."

A second OU NWS grad chimed in

"It's up there. The 2011 Super Outbreak was probably a bit worse, but I can't think of any others off the top of my head that I'd definitely rank ahead of this one."

Jesus! You hopefully have access to a storm shelter? I mentioned this to Cindy. She asked why people live there. I answered...no homeless krapping on downtown sidewalks.

Tornadoes hit a very small area, spread out over a LARGE area. It can be really bad for the folks hit, but a 1/4 mile away is fine. It is nothing like a hurricane, earthquake, wildfire, or worst and most deadly of all, a flood. Floods kill more people than any other weather related thing.

Look at the ares along the Mississippi river from Canada to the Gulf, they are flooding and they are about to get a double whammy.

My parents nad grandparents all lived to be into their late 70s and some into the 80s. None of them ever had tornado damage to their homes or businesses.

It is certainly something we are prepared for and we are watching the TV coverage. The tornadoes are not going to sneak up on anyone with intelligence that is average or above. Stupid people are just gonna be stupid, and I just will have to not worry about them.

Some storms are moving at 60 MPH. Those are the storms that are really hard for the storm chasers to keep up with and away from.

There is a big radar indicated tornado south of Roaring Sprimgs, Tx. Looks to be a monster.that if it keeps tracking it will be near Altus in an hour or so.

About a dozen supercells cable of devastating damage.

Not the superstorms up there. Flooding likely.

They are on the cold side of the front that is basically stationary over OKC so tornado risk is much lower.

It is the single storms that can suck up all the atmospheric energy that create the long lasting catastrophic tornadoes.

Oh, I get it...as a former pilot I am a total weather geek. My comment was not a forecast of the trouble to come!

El Reno is having a tornado warning. Sirens are going. The rotation is in the clouds, but nothing has dropped to the ground yet.

It built up fast.
