Anyone ever have clogged hearing?

Woke up yesterday with left ear "clogged". Tried all the usual techniques to clear.

Before going to bed last night it opened back up, thankfully.

Now this morning - back to "clogged" again.

Not the end of the world but a bit annoying.

Should I go to an eye-ears-nose doctor?

Or just wait it out?

TIA for any opinions.

Have you blasted it out with one of those rubber bulbs with water?

As mentioned above you can get the rubber bulb and ear wax solution from the drug store or a doctor/nurse can do a better job. It has been an annoying recurring problem for me but at least there is a solution.

Go to the doctor your assuming it's clogged with wax but it could be something more serious.

Tilt your head to the side and using an eye dropper, drop 6-8 drops of hydrogen peroxide in your ear. It's a weird AF feeling but it will dissolve any wax that's in there.

Sorry to hear of your troubles Baz. GP should help, probably something minor.

Oddly enough my hearing got better the other day. Very strange that I can hear things that I haven't before.

I went to the doc with similar symptoms. I had tried ear wax removal because it felt like my ears were clogged. The diagnosis was irritation and swelling in my sinuses and eustachian tube. She prescribed Singular (allergy drug) and Flonase or Nasacort. Cleared things right up. You can start with Nasacort - I think it was marginally better for me than Flonase.

To answer your initial post, yes, I had both ears clogged for over six weeks. If the clog is not external, such as wax build up, then it is likely irritation/inflammation as wdfifteen mentioned. Mine was not bacterial so antibiotics were useless. The Dr. diagnosed "allergies" and suggested OTC products, again, like mentioned by wdfifteen. Bottom line, I was miserable for quite a while but eventually it went away.

I have had hearing problems since I was 10 years old. I'm 69 today. I suffer from Tinnitus and hearing loss. I have had sinus surgery and experienced vertigo. A simple cold for me affects my sinuses and eventually my ears.

I may be an outliner but I don't mess around with my hearing. Do yourself a favor and go see a doctor -

It has happened to me three times over the past twenty years.
The first time, the Doc told me to go home and put vegetable oil drops in my ears for a week to soften the wax before she would wash it out.
The second time I started the drops before I presented myself to the Nurse Practitioner and she flushed out the wax build up.
The last time, I did the whole procedure myself. I used olive oil to soften the wax for a week, then used a trigger pump bottle to flush the ear with warm water.

Check with a Doc first, to see what you have got.

Often caused by allergies as we get older. See a Doc to eliminate more serious causes but most can be treated with ear cleaning and over the counter allergy meds.

Nurse got rid of a big chunk of wax in the 2000's with something she poured into my ear repeatedly.

I was way more than annoying once you could look back and compare after with before.

A 6 " long 1/4 " drill bit works for me every time The trick is knowing when to stop

Had ear problems as a kid, but it all seemed to have gone away. Last year, though, for no apparent reason, I had an ear clogged, that did not go away after a few days. Finally went to the doc, and had some sort of mild ear infection .
Antibiotics cleared it up in a day or two .

In reading your responses, it reinforces the probable need for me to seek professional help this time around, instead of 'fishing' for a solution - and perhaps missing the mark, as has happened in the past. Eventually the issue goes away on it's own, but now that I have a health care policy with Humana - it's time to take it for a test spin around the block and see what she can do.

I will post what happens here and once again thank you for your generous assistance and sharing of knowledge.

Luckily it isn't something serious this time - more of an annoyance. I'll let you know what happens.

A friend of mine was having ear problems to the point that he finally saw a doc-in-the-box. They quickly cleaned out his ears and determined he had a low level infection. He goes home and turns on the TV and it blared so loudly it scared him. It was set at the volume from the night before. Poor neighbors. They ought to pay the doc bill.

I'm long overdue to have my ears checked out. Like I said with my Humana coverage it's a perfect excuse to get this done.

I'm kind of curious myself to see how it goes.

I got a bad sinus infection mostly on the right side after my cancer radiation treatment last Dec/Jan. I would hold my nose and try to blow through it and there would be a loud popping noise and I would immediately get dizzy as hell! I was given some really strong antibiotics and then see an ear doctor. He had a really neat Otoscope that sent a WIFI signal to his assistant's laptop and then to a big screen TV. When he pulled the blood crusty stuff loose it hurt like crazy! It seems like my ear has weeping due to the radiation and I had to go back several times, now all is well. So yes as you said, see an ear specialist.
