And another thing:

In my day, we went to a baseball game and watched the game! Heck we even brought our gloves hoping to catch a foul ball!
And we were ready too. We watched every pitch, hoping we would get our one chance to make that catch. With our gloves, not our heads.

What we didn't do was look down at our stupid phones for most of the game, completely oblivious of what is going on around us.
If we weren't going to watch the game, we could just stay home and save a few bux.

If I buy a ticket to see an event, I watch the event. (At least they're getting out of their houses)

FWIW... They've just banned smart phones in Victorian schools. (Australia)

The reason given is bullying. I think it's a great idea but the kids will bully each other after-hours anyway.

I watched our former Rotary President sit looking at his phone through a whole lunch meeting and presentation the other day. It wasn't important work stuff which if you have, step out and take care of it. He was surfing and looking at Facebook. Gheez.

A lot of people would be lost without their smart phones.

I have and use one but I rarely look at it when in the company of other people... And never at work or on a customer site.

A few years ago a "manager" for the company I worked for was checking his email on his smart phone during my performance appraisal meeting.
To say I was pissed off is an extreme understatement. (Not my doing but he's no longer a manager )

I can't blame someone for using their phone at a baseball game. Between innings...

thank you so much for your wonderful contribution.

I care.
I care that baseball has been around for 173 years and now they have to pussify the ball parks because people can't pay attention any more.

Hey, maybe they can use NERF balls!

Dodgers fan hit by ball speaks out as team mulls extended netting

The fan who was struck in the head by a foul ball this week during a Los Angeles Dodgers game reportedly suffered a concussion and says that she "can't see out of my right eye."

Kaitlyn Salazar spoke out about her injuries as the team announced Monday that it's studying how to improve the protective netting for future games at Dodger Stadium. A day earlier, Salazar was sitting four rows from the field along the first-base line -- just beyond the netting that extends to the end of the visiting dugout -- when she was hit by a foul ball off the bat of Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger.

“My head really hurt, to be honest. That was the only thing I could feel," she told KLTA, adding that "I can't see out of my right eye."

Her father, Carlos, said it was "very bad luck because we were just beyond the net." The station also reported she had suffered a concussion.
'YOUNG FAN' INJURED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY BASEBALL DURING MINOR LEAGUE GAME

Bellinger, speaking to reporters following the game, called it a "scary situation" and said he went over to Salazar the next inning to check up on her.

“I saw it literally hit her face, so it was tough,'' he added.

The Dodgers on Monday said the team began looking during the offseason into how the netting at Dodger Stadium could be reconfigured.

The team said it will put any recommended changes into effect and extend the netting, but provided no timeline or details on the changes could be.

FOUL BALL OFF BAT OF CUBS PLAYER ALBERT ALMORA JR. STROKES CHILD; PLAY BRIEFLY HALTED

Last August, 79-year-old Linda Goldbloom died of brain trauma after being struck in the head by a foul ball at Dodgers Stadium.

Earlier this month, a female fan attending a Chicago White Sox game was struck by a ball off the bat of Eloy Jimènez. She was treated at a hospital and released. And in May, a liner by Albert Almora Jr. of the Chicago Cubs struck a young girl in Houston
.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said last week he did not expect teams to make changes to the netting at ballparks this season, but that he expected conversations to continue about whether netting should be extended.

Beginning last season, all 30 MLB teams extended their protective netting to at least the far ends of the dugouts.
Maybe they should just restrict the first 30 rows to males.

Or better yet, just ban cell phones from the ball park period.

one of the things that struck me most when I was in Paris was the absolute lack of staring into screens any time of day or night. No one was on their smart phones. They are banned in all French schools.

So did you actually go to a game recently or is this some geriatric memory spasm?
MrsWD and I have plans to go down and watch the Reds next month. I love the color and relaxed feel of a MLB field. We’re not fond of NFL statdia - just a whole different, more frenetic feel.

Not sure how lack of spectator participation pussyifies an event, but yea. I know you care. Care is like your middle name.

If I go a ball game, I only take my phone out to take a pic or two. I watch every pitch, get some beer, and dogs, watch the crowd if i'm bored, and generally make a mental note of the sites, sounds, and smells. It would honestly never occur to me to surf Facebook while there.

I periodically take my kids to various ball games. If their phones are out I’m taking them, tickets aren’t cheap!

I went to a Rush concert in Vegas where an idiot next to me was filming the entire show with his phone AND narrating. Such a DB. I hope the laser and light show ruined most of the footage. Thankfully, he moved after a few songs. I hate everyone (even more than Sammy does).

Well, I don't hate everyone, but those I do hate I hate with extreme prejudice.
