Are FB Classifieds tne new Craigslist ?
I know there are a bunch of threads like this but I am wondering . Where are you buying and selling these days ?
Im selling my camper. I did not even bother to list it on CL. I have noticed that I myself, have been searching far more stuff on FB, than on CL as of late . I am getting a ton of replies , way more than I typically used to get on CL . Your experiences ?

I bought a car a few weeks ago from FB.
Sold a trailer on CL last fall, and spent too long trying to figure out if the buyers were scammers. I hope adds range/location searches, sorts and better categories.

Maybe so. The nice thing about FB is that you can peruse the buyer/seller's page to see if they are a sketchy flake or not. I still use both but I put a bunch of language in the CL adds to discourage the flakes and lowballers. Real buyers still show up with cash.

It seems that way, but the FB search algorithm sucks; then again, you are the facebook product, not the customer.

90% of CL responses are from scammers. With FB Marketplace it's closer to 40%. Had one today, who suddenly was $20 short of what we agreed upon. He wrote, "I only have $180 today." I replied, "Then you're not buying my iPad." Friday and yesterday he was fine with $200.

Yes.
I'm a mod for my communities page. ~4,000 homes and we've got 1/4 as members. We restrict access exclusively to residents. It does not show up in a search. You need to first hear about it then have a friend who is already a member invite you. After we vet you to make sure you live here you get access. It works because all transactions take place within the community and you know you are dealing with a neighbor. We have a freecycle page for stuff that may have value to someone else and you don't want to throw away as well as a kids toy page and a clothing page. Tons of activity and virtually no drama. People tend to behave better when theres a chance they'll be running into each other often.

FB Marketplace is better than CL.
Nextdoor is even better as far as % of flakes, but a lot less sell/buy activity. Okay for furniture though.

Was a good idea but it's a spam machine. At least in my hood, others may vary. I accepted an invite and immediately regretted it. Deleted my account less than 48 hours later.

Between the pages and pages of abusive commercial ads and crackpot buyers I'm done with CL for selling.
FB is somewhat better but I've gotten a fair number of loons there too. heck I just had a complete dimwit on Gunbroker! People are just crazy out there.

I hear more about people finding deals on FB than anywhere else nowadays. CL is nothing but scammers and ebay is a bunch of overpriced junk that has to be so sellers can pay their ridiculous fees.
With that said, I only sell on CL and ebay because FB determined a couple years ago that I wasn't a real person and required me to send in a copy of my drivers license and W2 to prove my identity. I didn't so they deleted my account. However, it's got to be worth something for me to deal with CL or ebay otherwise it gets donated. I even donated the last car I tried selling because the scams on CL were so bad. Of the 100+ emails I got I don't think a single one was legitimate. Even with their new paid ads, it's still nothing but scams so it's a tough job trying to convince what's left of the people visiting CL that your ads are real. |

Maybe varies by 'hood? I turn off email notification of posts, so I never see anything from Nextdoor unless I go look at it. In my neighborhood, 90% of the posts are "my cat is missing" "is this a weed" "I need/am a nanny/gardener/handyman" "furniture free/for sale". The moderator for our neighborhood is pretty good at deleting anything abusive. The frequency of ads has become irritating but its easy enough to scroll past. I mostly like the furniture postings - in six months you could furnish a whole house for $1,000 on my neighborhood's Nextdoor and the stuff would be nicer than what i have.

This is where the real common denominator of America comes to light. I'm pretty sure most of the cows that post their crap thoughts on ND couldn't balance a check book.
