Sub $400 3D printer recommendations

I am looking to spend $400 US on a 3 D printer. A friend made some reccomendations for me and one was to avoid the Creality Ender at all costs. The interwebs seem to indicate that this is one of the best our there. Oddly, he spoke highly of the Tevo Tarantula Pro which the interwebs say is ‘meh’...

Who has experience with this?

On another note, is Google skewing search results to steer consumers toward a particular product?

As recommended by Marco. "Cetus 3D Printer MK3 - USD$ 399.00 – USD$ 499.00"

(I don't own this printer but I'm seriously considering it)

That is the one I am considering. Did you have to replace the base plate with glass?

Amazing how prices have come down. I built mine from scratch, about 5 years ago.

If I was buying of the shelf, I would look at monoprice.

No Im using the magnetic mat the pro comes with. My only semi gripe is the leveling screws are nearly at the max of their travel without any additional base plate.

I haven't had it that long, and mostly printing out trinkets with the kids. It seems to do pretty well. I had exceeding low expectations given that it is a pretty sophisticated and large machine for 230$, but I have been pleasantly surprised in most regards. Relatively fun and easy to assemble as well.

I know people who have had good luck with the monoprice units as well as flashforge on the higher end. A guy that used to report to me said you can buy 1000$ flashforge returns on ebay for $400 and they are usually either fully functional or require a cheap part to fix.

LOL

Widebody FTW!

Seriously, you get what you pay for.

I paid ~2k 6 years ago, and the same printer still sells for ~2k today.

So I pulled the trigger on this but with a slightly different purchase spec... I ordered the Creality CR-10S Pro yesterday. Apparently these are the best of the low dollar ($600) printers out there today. I also ordered a removable bed for it.

I will have it Tuesday...

While a little late to the discussion, I own a Creality Ender 3 (with mods) and it works pretty good... but it does require constant fiddling. I found a number of this fellow's videos very helpful.

Just don't look at the cost of the resin and post-process chem. Then you can say, what a deal!

Just like 911s, if you buy quality - even used quality- life will be better for you.

Agreed. The Creality Ender 3D (mentioned above) is under $200 now. These can be made to work fine but many require tweaking to get there.

While I can't prove they do, I guarantee that they do.
