I want one so bad….. I’ve wondered if I have a fire sale of everything I have, I might have a down payment. Been following them since they announced the kit. Although…… when they first were getting up n running, the kit was estimated to be around $130k, now they are north of $240….[emoji22] https://www.instagram.com/scalewings_aircraft/profilecard/?igsh=MWQ1ZGUxMzBkMA== |

OSH 2024
I don't take many pictures any more as I have been attending since '92. I did however take some random shots on the morning I got to fly right seat in the Trimotor as we got to go in non public areas like EAA's workshop and Basler's DC3 restoration facility. Lots of rare planes and airshow planes get stored overnight in a couple of EAA hangars and a ramp on the north side along with some current military stuff that does not end up parked at show center. That JT Corsair is owned by the Tobul family. I flew T6's with him back before it had been restored back to flying condition. Sadly, he lost his dad in that aircraft during an airshow when the engine failed and he had to put it down. Google Korean War Hero.

Bill Pancake is indeed THE Aeronca Guru. He has forgotten more about Aeronca's and airplanes in general than I will ever know, and is aside from that a very nice guy. He publishes his home telephone number and tells folks to "call anytime you need help!" and they do. He is also a long time Ham Radio and electronics nut and has designed and developed several really interesting electronic gadgets! Aside from that he is a well known engineer and has a handful of STC's that are still active on various aircraft that really make life easier for everyone in the aviation world. I am still on the board of directors for the National Aeronca Assoc and Bill used to be on the board with us but dropped off years ago to concentrate on his personal things. He is simply a "one of a kind" gent who bends over backwards to keep our antique airplanes flying! PS I got to do the same thing, flying a Tri-Motor in the right seat for a couple of circuits here at KDVT and loved it! Glad you were able to do the same thing! |
Joe, if Bill ever asks if you want to hear him recite a poem..... Say no unless you have at least 15 minutes for him to start rattling it off line for line from memory. ;):D
Incredible memory but it became tedious about 2 minutes in. :D |
One of Burt Rutan’s utilitarian designs. Kinda like a canard SUV. The rudder in the large dangly looking thing next to the front tire.

It was a fantastic week to be certain.. staying in camp scholler with BBQ, crab boil, steaks and Dutch oven cooking.... it's like burning man for non deviants who know how to use soap. A week of old fashion, old school wholesome good times.
