Do you reeaaally think I'm exited because "somebody" on a forum posted a picture thinking it was real??? Why would it or you even be important enough for me to raise my blood pressure half a point (and mine 's low by default) ??? That I reply to something means absolutely nothing, and that's really all I did. I replied to something.. I can do that sitting on the crapper. You want a picture of that? |

One of the neighbors planes
Just sorting out some pictures and found a picture of my neighbors aircraft.
1934 Taylor Cub still flies it.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1614020017.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1614020065.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1614020121.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1614020213.jpg Terry |

https://www.flyingmag.com/story/aircraft/technicalities-celera-500l-design/ "Well, I thought, the magic number must be 65,000 feet. Sure enough, here, 500 hp yields 430 ktas—at 120 kias—and 17 nmpg. A more realistic cruising power of 400 hp yields, well, nothing, because the minimum power required to sustain flight at this altitude, at 325 ktas, is 425 hp. We seem to be in the ballpark, but the Celera may encounter several difficulties on its way to FL 650." |

Saw this on another site; thought it funny enough to post here. |

No High altitude plane has such short stubby wings Not unless it has one of these : http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1615792934.jpg |
Take it up with Peter, he ran the numbers. High aspect ratio works well at high altitude.

I learned a couple of new things last night.
European theater WWII, highest ACE count was in a P47 Thunderbolt. But what's a half-kill? And Jimmy Stewart not just an actor, who knew? Legends of Airpower (1999) Amazon Prime Video http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1615830794.jpg |
Like an assist in basketball.
Awesome series by the way. |

TBO article is a good read. At the end of the day, the $45K I assume was the cost for rebuilding both engines on the subject aircraft. I still try to understand why an aircraft engine rebuild cost is so expensive. If a component measures within tolerance, does it get replaced anyway? What is the cost of bearings, cylinders, pistons, valves, guides, etc., assuming the crank, cam, conrods are within spec and reused. Compared to your standard Porsche 911 engine and replacing like components. Splane to me Lucy. |
