I concur. The nose/prop arrangement of the DHC-1 Chipmunk is very reminiscent of this aircraft.
I still can't identify this particular model but would love to take a hop in it.

Lots of uncontrolled airspace below 18,000 feet. Above that, everybody must be on an instrument flight plan and in communication with Air Traffic Control.

Below 18k, unless one is near a major airport, a transponder is not required.
The vast majority of airplanes have transponders so one does not have to skirt around the busy areas.

Blunder into LAX's airspace, and the pilot may end up having a little chat with the FAA.
