Anything less that a V12 3wheeler Mustang with a stick, hand throttle and rudder pedals can be crushed. |
er....after Car-N-Coffee every Mustang is a three-wheeler.
|
Good point, but not a V12, stick and rudder pedals !

VX4 Tomcat launch program officer First Tomcat Cruise chief LSO Flew first Tomcat combat mission over Vietnam during Op Frequent wind TopGun XO Got called over to Ace/Aim Val training to help put Hoser and his antics in check (who was giving the Top Gun Agressors a hard time), almost had Hoser for a simulated gun killed but Hoser yanked a 12G on the Tomcat and dissapeared in a cloud of vapes. then Topgun CO, where he is credited for making TopGun what is is today with stiff opposition from some non believers. Supposedly the top 3 F14 ACM pilot along with Joe Hoser Satrapa and Dale Snort Snortgrass, and some others. and probably top 10 ACM pilots of his era world wide. So pretty much a legend. I am calling BS to that one, LA FC would be well aware of planes with callsign ASPEN coming out of Beale AFB.. Aspen typically being either U2 or SR71's and FL600 is nothing unusual in that airspace

When I am out to the fields and see these folks working, I stop and enjoy the air show

Also, flight level 60 is 6k feet. |
Incorrect. There absolutely IS ATC control at FL600. It’s called Class A airspace, and all aircraft are required to have a clearance and operate under Instrument Flight Rules. So if an aircraft is above that airspace, and the pilot wants to descend into it from above, then he must obtain a clearance prior to doing so.

Thanks for that "pitching deck" video - that was awesome. Definitely watch part 2.

I was not a 53E pilot but, since I was at the Sikorsky Factory for three years while the E was in production (K Model now) I have just over 100 hours in the 53E as a co-pilot - or, perhaps more appropriately, a Sand Bag.
As I have written before, it is like flying your house from your bathroom. I did low level routes with the USMC Major at the factory across the desert delivering brand new 53E's to Tustin: 15 ft agl, 170kts. All legal. BTW, Dash 2 gets above lead quickly. Helo’s, unlike jets, take station on lead from above |
