I saw the Goodyear blimp over Hilton Head yesterday while I was playing golf. Must have been on the way to somewhere else because nothing is going on here.

^^^^^nice! SAR missions are an animal all their own.

Well, it never seems to amaze me that I discover new and exciting ways to smash my hopes n dreams…..[emoji2955]

I’ve mentioned earlier on in this thread I’m helping a buddy who owns a LongEZ. While he works in all new avionics, I volunteered to work his landing gear and engine cowlings. It was my intent to get them into paint these next few days while off from work. I shot them in K36 primer two weeks ago and everything looked ok. Tonight I built a paint booth filter and started sanding on the upper and lower cowling. I fully understand that there is way more for me to learn regarding painting. This was one of those learning points that was hard to swallow, oh well, it’s all about baby steps.

So…… What do you get with four sticks of 1”x2”x8’ timber, four sections of sheet rock edging and four smashed HVAC filters and some scrap plywood?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4b39014483.jpg

A makeshift paint booth air filter https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3c6d69b227.jpg
On to the learning point…
Sanding at night with a light source is a very humbling experience. Shows you very quickly all of the errors with the prior applications of UV filler primer before the K36. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3c2785a8f4.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a52322dde8.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4df8a4f045.jpg
Next step, guide coat, sealer and then top coat. At least the positive take away is that I have learned a lot a out composite work and paint for whenever I start on the VariEZ (FastMover-1)

Cheers

As soon as you have an extra 4000 hours right?

‘Tis thunderstorm season, and we were bobbing and weaving our way past countless cells on our way into Phoenix last week. This was taken from 36,000 feet looking out ahead.

Best office ever, great pic, thanks

I know those clouds can be deadly for a small private plane, how nervous do you guys get even though your in a large jet?

Dpmulvan 08-11-2022 07:51 AM

Anyone know a cfi for gyrocopters in the Upstate NY?? I know you fixed wing guys think they’re dangerous but I want one. All the fixed wing pilots I know insist they’re dangerous PIO and unloading the rotor blades et.

450knotOffice 08-11-2022 07:53 AM

Oh, those thunderstorms would rock our world if we were to ever blunder into one. Airline pilots are understandably very cautious around these bad boys. With that said, we have really good radar coupled with altitude and speed and are usually able to circumvent them pretty easily, even if it means diverting 50 or more miles off course to find our way through, so we tend not to be nervous around them. Cautious yes, nervous, no.

I of course downloaded the cockpit picture and, I have about 1000 hours in the UH-60L in three years at the Sikorsky Factory, didn't recognize the cockpit. The L cockpit was about as digital as a hammer.

I read about some digital upgrades, the "V", but am interested to know what version of UH you flew in. The Bird looks kitchen clean, btw.

Paul, we fly with the NJARNG.

I believe that particular airframe is an L. I know that unit also has a couple "M"s

I am still learning….[emoji3061]

I play around with the material flow and pattern knobs continually.

On this job, I actually laid down a sealer coat as a wet on wet, let it flash for 30 minutes and went to work on the single stage top coat. Last year I picked up a 3M accuspray and I am a bit disappointed in after all the hype. I defaulted back to the husky gun I bought ten+ years ago from Home Depot. I am looking at a Seta or Iwata, but we are talking big bucks for a home hobbiest.

I would like to be able to have the knowledge and skill set to shoot the 912 or 911…..[emoji2371] currently my skill set of falling a bit short of my expectations, but it’s all about baby-steps……right?

Here are some pics of these cowlings in the beginning stages of the project. Here is a fun fact: don’t ever have fiberglass plastic blasted unless you are 250% sure that it is 100% hand laid fiberglass. That’s is, unless your willing to fill the hundreds/thousands of micro holes blasted out of the resin gel coat…. Ask me how I know this!!!!!!

Let me know when you go again. I would love to see a Mike Model if they'd let me. Easy drive for me and I could use a road trip.

BTW, nice work Bugs!

Thank you Sir! It has been an adventure to say the least and I learned a bunch about working composites. I showed my buddy/owner what they look like and he replied, “looks good, so when I innocently mention that we…..”You” paint the wings next, you learned all the tricks….”
My initial response…..

The plane crash was wild, especially since everyone survived. I lived in Corona for several years for the job, there were always plane mishaps at the Corona Airport and surrounding areas, weird..

If I do paint “FastMover-1”, our VariEze. I’m kinda thinking about the Aggressor Squadron scheme…[emoji848] I know the whole reason of keeping composite aircraft white due to heat, but I think it would be kinda cool. If I ever get a PPR to fly into Beale AFB to visit my brother, I think the tower would get a laugh…

I'll see what I can do! They have been real tough with base access since the Covid nonsense. I'm lucky I can even get on, even though our facility is on it.

I'm amazed at the panel on the Mikes. All screens. slight difference from the R22 I took my lessons on ! :D

The SP have these AW139s Same with them, not a single analog instrument on them.
