Surprised it wasn't a thread already! 2020 mid engine Vette

Yeah, I could be tempted. 400+ hp... Sub 3 second 0-60... looks really nice... and all for 60K? Man it's gonna be tough to keep the 911 even though it's an icon with performance and a price like that!

drcoastline 07-19-2019 04:25 AM

That is the first Corvette since about 1982 that I like. But I wonder? It starts at $60K, so what doesn't it have at that price? Personally I don't like most of the options/electronic gadgets in todays cars. For me, manual transmission, paddle shift would be OK but not mandatory, A/C, Power locks, basic sound system. Maybe power windows. That's it, I don't need anything else.

It does look an awful lot like the new NSX.

javadog 07-19-2019 04:39 AM

Let me be the first to say that I can’t stand the interior. The asymmetric center console is hideous and, note to car designers worldwide, I want a round steering wheel in my cars.

Yet another performance car with no manual transmission. Boo.

KFC911 07-19-2019 04:42 AM

Don't like the 1st pic...can't use twice the performance...just not for me. I would not trade my Carrera for one....

rfuerst911sc 07-19-2019 05:18 AM

While I applaud GM for going mid-engine the style just doesn't do anything for me . But many modern cars the style does nothing for me . Too many large mouth bass radiator grills , way too angular lines meh no thanks . I look at the smooth curvy shape of my Boxster and see a modern 550 spyder . Guess I'm not a Vette guy ......... I'm OK with that :D

I've never tried a car with a steering wheel that wasn't round, but there have been times that I thought it might be nice to have a wheel that was a little flat on the bottom for more thigh clearance. I'm tall enough, that I've never needed flat on top.

onewhippedpuppy 07-19-2019 05:29 AM

Actually gotta say I really, really like it. For the money, what new car can top that?

After paying for another $8k service my neighbor is going to have me sell his McLaren, he wants to replace it with one of these.

I'd rather drive a flounder...or a carp :)

Diggin' a post hole in hard as granite sand rock just sux....no other option...8" mo'....that is all ;)....

I don't believe they have a transmission that works reliably yet. That's a cause for concern.

Supposed to have an 8 speed dual clutch. (I almost said PDK:D) No manual.
I watched the unveil last night, real time. Thirty minutes of boring engineers and astronauts talkin BS about how high tech the car is before they actually showed it. I nearly turned it off. That said, its a hell of a car for $60k. I wish my Cayman had 495 horsepower and a PDK. Sticker on it was $64k in 2008.

I was going to watch and then forgot about it.

onewhippedpuppy 07-19-2019 06:48 AM

No manual? Ok nevermind.

cairns 07-19-2019 07:01 AM

Too much cowbell. Too much Chevy. No manual. I'll keep the 991 thanks.

nota 07-19-2019 07:14 AM

60k

Don’t like no manual but I would have same issue if I wanted a new Ferrari or Lamborghini. Awesome that Porsche still offers manual on 992

Hate how that trim piece on door is black and not color of body

Row of buttons is very odd

Hate the hood lines

Hate the tail lights and the whole rear end basically

Don’t like snow flake rims

Otherwise best modern corvette yet!

I do like the roof into rear contour. Looks nice like they ripped off Ferrari and that’s ok with me

Compared to modern Lamborghini style, the corvette is no worse

Yes, 8 Speed DCT. It is not road ready. Not nearly. They work. Briefly.

ramonesfreak 07-19-2019 07:33 AM

Oh and I’ve seen a ton of McLarens around town and god what an ugly car that is. The F1 is the only model I’ve ever seen that didn’t look totally stupid

For how to do a modern sports car interior, look at the 992

If it is a quick rack, I don't mind a flattened bottom to allow my legs in there, but this is like some 12 year old in the 1980s decided what the interior should look like in 2020. What is up with that row of buttons on the side? Couln'd they have made a nice little panel for them?

The exterior looks like the chopped the back of a Camaro to use to be abe to fit the engine back there and then cobbled parts of a Saleen S7 on the front. The front is bland and the back is, well it isn't bland.

Seems like an awful lot of trouble to knock a few tenths off the "ring" time. It no longer looks classic, but more generic. I am sure it is a good perfomer, but so are a bunch of other cars.

bcgreen 07-19-2019 08:06 AM

Reminds me alot like the NSX.

"Todd! Look over there on the pier! It's the new Corvette!"

"Golly, Buzz! That thing is hideous! It's got a two piece rear window! You gotta be kidding me! And where are the headlights? Look at those exhaust pipes. They're right under the doors. Ewww! The designers at Chevy need to be fired!"

"Did you hear? It's called a "Stingray?" Who do they think will buy a car called a 'Stingray'? 12 year old kids? They could have at least called it a "Shark!"

"I hate it!"

"I hate it too!"

"Let's go have an adventure!"

"Swell!"

aschen 07-19-2019 09:00 AM

I thought y'all were patriots?

Im waiting for more details to form an opinion, I am astounded it will start at 60k. Seems almost unbelievable. 911 S+ performance for base Boxster price, I can look by some low rent interior bits.

911 Rod 07-19-2019 09:13 AM

I'd like to see what a car would look like if they let you guys design it. :D

Well the 992 does have digital gauges except for the tach but at least it looks good

It would look exactly like a Miura if I designed it 🤓

cairns 07-19-2019 09:28 AM

Being a patriot does not in any way require you to buy crap from GM.....

sc_rufctr 07-19-2019 09:34 AM

Sorry guys but I think it looks dreadful. It reminded me of the crappy 80s era muscle cars with bolt on aftermarket fibreglass bits.

The interior and centre console are a joke. I wouldn't be surprised if the next one looks more traditional.

flipper35 07-19-2019 09:35 AM

For one, I would go with round taillights instead of the square ones from the Camaro. I would put a round wheel with a flattened bottom in and put a proper panel instead of a surge strip in for those buttons. Or put the functions on the multimedia display. That power trip of buttons is awful. It has no business in a 6k car, let alone a 60k car. I don't doubt its performance, it is just so ugly.

I would take a FM ND V8 Miata over this.

Now that you mention it, the rebody kits for the Fiero were better than this.

Seahawk 07-19-2019 09:50 AM

I don't like it or hate it - cars of this type simply all look the same to me, just like every SUV/Cross Over/Sedan on the road.

When a KIA looks like a BMW that looks like a Hyundai; Munich, we have a problem.

Automobiles are so good mechanically today it would be great for any manufacturer to wrap the essential goods in something interesting. Performance is a dick measuring contest and is irrelevant at the edges these cars drive.

My son and daughters FJ's are not everyone's cup of tea, but at least they are visual, recognizable. The interior is great as well, my favorite car cockpit by far.

The last car design that made me look, ponder and reach for my wallet was ...

pwd72s 07-19-2019 10:09 AM

After wearing out my clutch leg on a crawling (wreck ahead jam-up) I-5 in order to go a mile or so to an exit that would give me a backroads route home, the car's performance didn't mean squat.

I'd hoped that with only 30K miles, the '09 Mustang would be my last car. But more & more I've found myself thinking that comfort and an automatic take precedence over performance. O-60 and 1/4 mile times just don't mean much in the traffic situations I too often encounter today.

So, a new Corvette? Nope...a Lexus luxobarge is looking more & more attractive to me.

Besides, I'm still angry at GM ever since it became Government motors.

Tobra 07-19-2019 10:32 AM

...BMW 2002

I don't like new cars, backup camera and lane departure warnings on a two seat sportscar, no thanks.

flipper35 07-19-2019 10:37 AM

I suppose Dodge will go mid-engine on the Challenger now so it can hook up better in the quarter mile?

I still like my Cobra replica. Classic curves and fun to drive, even though it has old school suspension.

I think the C6 was the best generation for styling in the Corvette.
