Too freaky for coincidence
At a winery last sunday, for my mom's 90th birthday party, they had a few of these around the picnic area:
![]() I spoke to my son about it, we thought it would be cool in the backyard, but I never searched for these firepits/cauldrons on either my phone or home computers. Today the above popped up in my facebook feed. Am I being spied upon? Location based add? (google maps knew I was there, and others may buy after being in the same location) ![]() ![]()

You are not crazy. I am absolutely convinced that there are apps our phones listening to us. WAY to many instances of that exact same thing. I talk to someone about some obscure product, and bingo, it show up in my facebook ads. I never searched for the product, only talked to someone about it.

This.
This February I was talking to a co-worker about a "Tacos are my Valentine" shirt, I thought it would be funny to get for Valentines day. She searched for the shirt on her computer and brought it up. Another co-worker across the aisle joined in on the conversation, but didn't look anything up on either her computer or phone. That night the same shirt we were looking at showed up on co-worker #2's Facebook feed. Creepy. |

Also looks like a scam. They sell for alot more.
Facebook should be vetting ads for scams.

The winery company bought those cauldrons so the company that sells them knows the location of their product...
And your phone knows were it so if you logged onto a web browser to your Google account on your phone, Google are probably getting location data. = Targeted advertising. It may seem far fetched but it doesn't take a lot of data or bandwidth to do stuff like this.

Apparently the serie sp? and other voice commanded devices are sending data to the mother ship for them to scan to *better develop their product*. They also discussed that some phones do the same thing. Big brother is watching and listening. No doubt.

After hearing that show, I dumped Chrome and went back to Firefox after not using it for 10 years. The number of trackers and cookies it is blocking is amazing. I don't really see any difference in functionality, but some of the menu navigation needs improving.

Is this even a question anymore? Of course they are doing it and people just do not care.
The solution is to not buy these products or allow them in your lives. Get a dumb phone and/or wrap the other in foil box until you want to use it. There have been zero privacy laws enacted for two decades and it's not even remotely on the table. https://www.theblaze.com/unleashed/google-nest-microphone https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/25/business/amazon-alexa-conversation-shared-echo.html https://nypost.com/2019/07/29/apples-siri-routinely-records-you-having-sex/ https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/google-voice-search-records-stores-conversation-people-have-around-their-phones-but-files-can-be-a7059376.html http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps4/settings/facerecognition.html |

It would change the adds on the page at the current visit. It never made any long term changes that I could see. My adds were probably demographically targeted. IMO, this is location/friend based rather than "listening". You may not have gone and looked it up, but how do you know someone around you didn't? All it takes is targeting people that are together or know eachother; if one is interested, surely a friend is too? |

My speculation is that those are unique enough items that several people at the winery looked them up on google. Google then used every bodies location data to spot a good opportunity for a targeted ad. I doubt it is the result of voice recognition of y'alls conversation...........but I may be in denial

Android or IOS?
My wife and I are trying an experiment, we talk to each other about getting a good price on something obscure, I won’t name it hear to void our experiment but pick something there is no way someone would know you were interested in. Repeat it, ask about where to find it and the best place to buy one. So far no targeted ads, we are all Apple products.

I wonder sometimes if ads are popping up all the time that I just don't normally notice until I see the thing (eg the chairs) and then when I see them on FB I notice??
