racing slicks rotation
i have hoosier F-45 slicks. they have rotational arrows on them but does it really matter which direction they rotate,.

Hoosier seems to think so. There is a type of tire construction that might be more prone to failure if the tires are run the wrong direction, I don’t know if those particular tires are made that way, but why take a chance?

The layout of the chords is directional. Running them "backwards" will make them prone to overheating, then separation/delamination. The only right way to swap them side to side is to dismount and remount them on the rims.

I used Goodyear cantilever slicks on my 914-6 race car and had the setup so pretty much all 4 tires wore out the same rate and the Good year tire rep at PIR (or whatever it's called now) said the arrows were put on as a joke! Of course they were bias ply so radials might be different?

Jeff is correct and that is what I meant. Assuming you run a fair amount of negative camber you can get a lot more wear out of them.

Different manufacturers use different ways of wrapping the cords. Some are directional, some are not. Some have an "inside" and an "outside", with the outside sidewall being notably stiffer. Whether or not they are directional, have an "inside" and "outside", or none of the above are all independent of whether they are bias or radial.

I used to swap them side to side when I was sprint racing... then I got into endurance racing... sometimes this isn’t an option.
The direction doesn’t seem to make a difference in slicks. On tires with treads, the direction only seems to to matter in the wet.
