Where (or even how) to purchase old wine?

I like the vintage watch idea, or something similar that speaks to your wife.

You are certainly rolling the dice with older wine. Without knowing how it was stored and managed I would not spend the $$$+$ on that without a guarantee. Now I know a few restaurants in SD area that would likely have vintage wine for a nice premium. Likely in your area too. Sure more expensive, but if the thing has gone sideways they will take it back. Just a thought.

Another thought, already mentioned above, there are oodles of great wines to be had under $100. Since you both are relatively new how about a high end wine tasting with your friends and some great catered food to support?
