I agree no reason to boo the guy. In his announcement he said the cycle of injuries and rehab was too much to endure. Some commentator said he was giving up $500 million. What good is more millions if you are too beaten up to enjoy it?
Let those selfish fans stand behind center in his place for a few games and see how they feel about being beaten to a pulp over and over. I wish him well.

He is a local football hero, here in West Houston. If my family had stayed in Houston, I would have attended the same High School.

A guy brighter, more talented and successful than 99.9% of the people in the stadium is being boo'd...sounds like the perfect place to be leaving.

Kudos to him for making the wise choice. He’s a great guy with the vast majority of his life ahead.

I say good for him. Plenty of dough, relatively undamaged.
Tough to be the guy who replaced the legend. He has a nice wife and a kid on the way. How you going to say this is not the right thing to do?

Smart on his part. A sad sports scene is a former superstar trying to hang in there after his talent has been diminished by age & injury. He has nothing to be ashamed of.

I agree. I often wonder why many of these guys don't do the same. Cut your losses...take your millions and move on, you are already set for life. Honestly I respect Luck for knowing when to move on to the next phase of his life.

Good for him. I'm assuming he's situated himself well financially. Could be others don't stop while they're ahead for lots of reasons, among them being greed and blowing most of their money as lots of famous athletes have been known to do ending up as a greeter someplace.

He seems smarter, and more savvy than most others in pro sports, by realizing his limits, and most likely set up for life (financially). No need to boo, unless you feel bad about your own situation.

Reminds me of Jim Otto, who played the game for 15 years. But that turned out to be too long:

Agree this is a good thing for Luck.
I like to think he's putting quality of life over absolute dollars and that is inspirational. i don't believe football culture regarding injuries at the young ages has really changed; perhaps this will help kids see the light.

He made the right decision for himself and his family. Shame on the booing fans.

A guy named Dave Wilson was the quarterback at my high school, I played center but was a year younger IIRC.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Wilson_(American_football) He was a first round draft pick for the saints, but he suffered a knee injury in his first season in the NFL and ended up carrying a clip board for most of his career. A blessing in disguise. he didn't get all wrecked and can still walk without a limp. he made damn good money and watched most of the games from the sidelines. IMO that is the best job in the NFL. Some of those QBs that play every week are almost crippled by the time they retire. |

I can't help but wonder how well they'll get around in 10 or 20 years from now and how badly they will be physically damaged. Roethlisberger has had 23 documented injuries during his NFL career. Quote:
