new spoon
I just ordered a Remington R1 1911 45.
$560.!! I was in a pawn shop last week and saw one for $700 and thought that was pretty cheap for a 1911. so I did a little research and found the gun is a pretty nice 45 and that its very close to the original ones and that's about the average price. then I found one on Buds guns for 550. I left the screen up on my computer at work for the past week thinking about it. this morning I saw it and thought what the heck, I always wanted a 1911 and for $550 that's not a bad deal. will let you know how it turns out.

1911s are an endless rabbit hole. Get a cheap one, and you'll end up modding it and will eventually have more into it than if you had bought a tuned one to begin with. I haven't shot the Remington 1911 yet, but I have been through many others - ParaOrdnance, Colt, SIG, Springfield, Dan Wesson, etc. My Dan Wesson Valor was $1100 used, but I'll put it up against any of the boutiques that cost 3-4x as much. Ditto for my SIG Nitron Nickel, which was about $1000 new.

yea, already thinking new trigger.....but that's part of the fun.
I could probably spend over a grand and still put a trigger in it.

My Valor's trigger will go down if you puff on it. And it's bone stock.

Go have fun with it!
Put at least 250 rounds through it before you do anything...I have a Spanish Llama .45 pistol with a double stack magazine I bought for $150 as a truck gun and it makes me smile every time I shoot it. Shoot first, ask mod questions later

I know 1911's (and AR15's) are "Barbie dolls for men" that can be endlessly dressed up. And yeah, it's a lot of fun. But, you know, my all time favorite 1911 was my first generation Springfield A1. Absolutely faithfully mil spec in every regard. Parkerized, teeny little fixed sights, no beavertail, standard hammer that bit the web of my hand every time I held it wrong, arched mainspring housing, short trigger, and on and on. All of the stuff everyone likes to replace. I loved that gun for what it was, and it shot wonderfully.
I wound up giving it to my younger son on his 21st birthday. He had some "history" with it, having first shot it when he was five years old. We went shooting just the other day and, of course, he brought it. I never let him put a round through it - I quickly absconded with it and "made" him shoot my newish Colt Competition, with all the "desirable" modifications. I told him I would trade him on the spot for my "better" gun. He declined... rather emphatically... There is a certain charm to the mil spec guns that is lacking in the gussied up ones. Maybe a guy should have one of each.

I intend on purchasing an STI 2011 Stacatto Duo (9mm). It will have an RMR red dot sight as well. A truly sexy pistol that feels completely right in my hand.
