They don’t make singers like this anymore
Grace Slick, singing the vocal track from the song White Rabbit:

and she did it without auto-tune.
I also have great respect for her attitude about old people doing comebacks and reunions. |
Heard that some time ago on our local classic rock station while driving . S he's got an amazing voice. This station did a bunch of other's like that without music. Its very cool
|
She can sing. Saw her with Starship at the OKC zoo amphitheatre.
About halfway through the show she says. "We have to turn down the volume so the zoo animals can sleep. F*** EM!" And they continued to blast.. |

Thanks for that. White Rabbit is a powerful song because of her voice.
How did she do that? Was she listening to the instrumental parts on headphones while she sang and they recorded her track to add to the mix? |
That was great - brought back a lot of memories.
I thought the thread was going to be about... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567600124.jpg |

I saw Hot Tuna (Jorma and Jack ain't stopped since '70) a few years back and Grace wuz in town speaking or something....the rumor mill buzzed....(neber gonna happen). J&J left the rock star stuff behind.... But Jack...sly grin about half-way through....steps forward and starts dropping his thunderous Bass Bombs...intro to White Rabbit... The packed house erupted....ya had to be there :) Go see Hot Tuna...always a treat acoustic or electric...always ;). |
For me that song defines a generation! I was 4 when she sang at Woodstock so it's before my time.
But her voice and passion makes it great! |

It's not uncommon to lay down the rhythm tracks first; drums, then base, then rhythm guitar, etc. She may not have had the whole song played back to her but she probably had at least the rhythm parts. What I find interesting about artists of her generation is just how good they were at a young age. She was 27 when she recorded that, having taken up a career in music only 1 year before. I'm not aware of any formal training she had in singing. She's said to have written the song in an hour. I think she performed it in an band that she formed with her husband in 1965, the year before she joined Jefferson Airplane and recorded the version we all know. I got to see her up close, performing it live in the early 70's. An amazing talent, one of the few really gifted female singers of her generation. |
