Isn't the whole point of drilling/slotting rotors an attempt to reduce heat ? Why in the hell would they be black ?

If you've been here long enough you'll remember similar entertainment from, what, 10- 15 years ago.

In this case, the owner painted them and seems to be trying to pass it off as 'overspray'.

No word on whether Armor All was involved.

no the hot gas that is created by the friction is vented out of the way by the slots & holes

I think some of the cheaper coated rotors come like this , maybe from rock auto ?
I know I have installed a few sets that were supplied by customers, The directions stated not to clean off the coating, just bed them in .
95% if the rotors I replace are due to corrosion, and rust on the surface. It seems to propogate at the hat, and the outer edges where the pads do not contact, then works its way inward, leaving pits on the brake surface.
Coated rotors seem to last quite a bit longer here in the rust belt . At first , I thought it was gimmicky , but after a few years of using them, they do seem to hold up better

I had a friend in college who insisted that to bed in your brakes, you cover the new rotors and pads in brake grease (those little purple packets you see at the counter at your FLAPS) and then go perform some high speed stops.
Given his continued existence, I don't think he had ever actually performed this method himself.

+1 there seem to be a lot of fully coated rotors these days.

I will mask off the swept area and pain the hats with black high temp paint for rotors that will be on the car a long time.

Nope, any non-metallic paint will radiate heat just as well

it's all black in the IR
