Yeah, when your town is as flat a Houston and you occasionally get 2 feet (or more) of rain in a day or so, things are going to flood. All the usual low spots were (at least temporarily) underwater.
I used to buy tools at that Sears. Pretty sketchy part of town for a long time, but it's getting better as Midtown gentrifies the area again. RIP Sears. Yesterday was quite the surprise. Seemed like the storm had moved north and then reversed direction in the morning to head back south. My wife said she heard that White Oak Bayou rose 20' in an hour mid day yesterday. It flooded I-10 at downtown and really made a mess inside the loop. Every flood seems a little different based on precisely where the rain falls. This one reminded more of Allison than Harvey in terms of flooding around here. The water was instantly on top of us, rather than W and NW and coming downstream. But today is a Chamber of Commerce weather, and the kids have the day off. May go for a bike ride and watch the high water on the bayou. And if anyone is looking for a new track car project, keep an eye on CoPart for the next couple months... |
