The video shows two students at Edison High School in Stockton throwing punches on Wednesday before the Marine, identified as 18-year-old Pfc. Josue Valdez Sarmiento, sprints in and abruptly knocks the grappling duo to the ground.

Valdez Sarmiento is a recent graduate of the school and was there to help with recruiting but is not a recruiter, the U.S. Marine Corps said.

“He saw a dangerous fight break out. Upon observing that situation, he moved over and broke up the fight," Maj. Thomas Driscoll told KCRA. "Although, the manner in which he did [could] have been improved, we are proud of Pfc. Valdez Sarmiento for his decision to intervene."

Ha!

that 3rd party disruption of a fight is not unique to humans - it is found in some (other) primates such as gorillas and the 3rd party is termed a "control animal"

Just one ground rule amongst us humans, however - if you ever see two brothers fighting, stay the hell out of it. You will soon find yourself fighting both of them, so they can return to their dispute...

hmmm... now you've got me interested in whether gorillas do that

I dunno but I'm sure they can recognize sibs - even tadpoles are known to be able to recognize relatives...

You aint kidding. This was in my teens when these two grown men living two doors down from me were beating the hell out of each other. One of them lived there for many years, the brother drove up and started to give each other siht. Next thing we know, we were watching MMA in his front yard. One was bashed on the ground with a pipe. No one called the cops, they just stood there and watch in horror. I was actual afraid that someone was going to die that day. These were 40-45 year old big men.

Back in HS there were two large brothers (farmers) who always got into it with each other. One memorable time was in the bathroom where the smaller of the two swung on the frame of the stall door so as to get higher kicks.
