Elissa's Travel Plans

Elissa is presently in the hospital in UT Southwestern in Dallas recovering from a bad lung infection for the last 2 weeks. Daily improvement and possibly going home on Wednesday or Thursday.
Insurance has finally agreed with Duke Medical Center for the initial evaluation, transportation, housing, transplant and 2 year follow up. Somewhere between 1.1 and 1.6 million dollars is what we were told during the negotiations.
My wife is her travel companion to duke and they fly out of DFW on October 6th and will stay 3-4 days for the initial work up then fly home and wait to find out if they will list her for transplant.
Duke states 14 days is the average wait after getting listed. We will have to live in Chapel Hill North Carolina for 4months to a year. This will be a big interruption in our lives but something we are hopeful for.

Gary, thank you for your reminders of what's really important in this world. Hugs from all of Pelican for Elissa...we're pulling for her.

A good friend who worked in my shop for years recently had a liver transplant at Duke and is doing great.
He says Duke is the best by far.
He and his wife had to buy a motor home to stay in while in NC waiting.
I'm praying your results are as good.

A very good story about a very good friend:

Good luck at Duke. They treated a family member 12 years ago and they are still doing great. They still go there for annual check ups.

Also, lots of air-cooled folks in NC. If you are still into those kind of things. 😁

Duke for the transplant for sure but which basketball team to cheer for? Duke or UNC?

Hope the recovery from the infection is quick and the transplant goes well.
Whole bunch of Pelicans from around the world cheering for Elissa.

Wishing you only the best of luck!!

Gary, lived in CH for over 11 years and my son is a senior there now, so we still get up there quite often...only too happy to run any errand to help in your relocation.

Please don't hesitate to PM/Call/email. I'm just 45 mins south. (no help on that other town just down the road )

.....as an aside:

Go Duke !
