Hardly.

Spent 30 years in video games dealing with licensed product.

Dave Mirra, Brett Farve, Derrick Jeter, Travis Pastrana, The Olsen Twins (got a great education there, their manager / attorney was a piece of work), The NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Mortal Kombat, Ferrari, WWF/E, Marvel, Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, ..... you see a lot of ****.

Had a guy come after us 2 years ago because we used piece of music whose copyright had already expired and the performance we used was specifically produced for common royalty free use.

Somehow it snuck past the geofences and popped up in Germany where the copyright for the piece was still good for another year.

The house that owned the rights to the original composition came after us claiming that it did not matter if we were using a royalty free performance, they still held the rights for the composition so that covered everything.

Guy was looking for $50K mostly because I would not tell him how long the piece had been in the wild so he could not figure useage and took a shot in the dark.

Called their US office the next day, described what we wanted and useage, got quoted $150k. Yeah no thanks we'll use something else.

Checked GEMA (Germanys ASCAP) and the piece was part of their catalog to collect play royalties for.

Opened an account, submitted useage, paid them the $250.00 ish they calculated we owed then told the guy to go **** himself.

Never heard another word.

The money talk is stupid talk.

There are no revenues to even discuss.
Pelican offers this forum FOR FREE. Why?
How to archives encourage new buyers.
And new buyers buy parts.

Pelican would benefit if we curated, edited, and archived some of the how-to knowledge here.

Revenue generation is not a requirement for copyright infringement to occur.

It just makes things worse for them when one does derive revenue from the infringement.

Pelican offers this forum FOR FREE. Why?

Because how to archives encourage new buyers.

And new buyers buy parts.

Pelican certainly benefits from the curated, edited, and archived how to knowledge that can be found ---->here<----

Just because you think it would benefit them does not give you the right to do it.

If you feel so strongly about it get in touch with Pelican, make your pitch, and get permission.

Thats step 1.

most of the above is true, tho I doubt that permission is needed to compile posts and distribute them

esp. given consumer laws
