Yep. They created the mess and now must live with high fuel prices as a result.

I made some calls. You were half right, the half that starts with C.
Pretty sure that's what is driving the local spike.

I paid 4.20 for Premium at Shell on Tuesday. Thanks for the insight. I just thought it was the Saudi Arabia thing a few weeks ago.

Wow, I paid just $2.99 a few days ago for 100% gasoline, no alcohol premium.

I am pretty sure the Cali folks are actually paying more than the price indicated on tbe signs since they also get hit with a sales tax. Not sure if the posted price includes sales tax. We don't have a sales tax on fuel purchases in OK.

Thus chart is a year old and doesn't include the latest increase of 5.6 cents.

In Calif price displayed is price you pay (although credit can be 10 cents more than cash at some stations). Just paid $4.05 this morning for regular at the local "cheap" station. It was $3.49 just a week ago.

So the sales tax is included in the sign price. Thanks. That sales tax is a tax on the taxes already build into the price.

Oklahoma does not have a sales tax on gasoline.

Actually, the people that created the mess profit from it. The rest of us are victims of their nefarious schemes

Maybe they are trying to encourage folks to by EVs so that they can all try to charge them up at night when there is an abundance of wind and sunshine.

The people who created it and profit from it are the AQMD, CARB, and the politicians in Sacramento.

CA still produces roughly 10% of US domestic oil supply yet we get f**ked in the azz at the pump. Thank you Sacramento and stupid sheep voters who continue to rubber stamp this stuff. I paid $3.79 this morning and felt like I won the Lotto.

Nowhere in the USA has a separate sales tax on gasoline, it’s all fuel tax built into the pump price. Where did you hear that?

I said I wasn't sure. Craigster clarified and I thanked him for the clarification.

Gasoline sales tax is 2.75%, and that is on top of the state excise tax of $.473 and the federal excise tax of around 18 cents.
IOW we are paying sales tax on excise tax.

BTW Jet fuel sales tax is 7.25%
Diesel sales tax is 13%.

If we add up all the taxes and fees charged by the gubmint from crude oil drilling to refining to the pump, you'd find that over 1/3 of the $$$$ we pay goes to the gubmint.

And here's the funny part: Gavin Nuisance, the a-hole who supported increasing the gasoline tax many times, has once again called for an investigation into why gas costs so much.
They laugh when the price goes up, and as soon as it is ready to start falling they call for an investigation and PRETEND that they are responsible for bringing the price down. Every time they do it.
And if it gets low enough they look at that as an excuse to increase taxes and fees.

And the dumbest of the dumb believe the nonsense and continue to support these people and vote for them. Amazing.
They shuoldn't be allowed to reproduce, much less vote.
