The tax valuation at the time of transfer may be different from that after sale. Meaning: It could be a billion dollar house, right now, but after they wreck it the valuation will be $0. In order to bring it back to original value and sell it, you will have to spend a billion dollars to fix it up again and return it to the previous condition. That loss or the capital expenses required 'might' be deductible from your tax gains. In the meantime, introduce yourself and intentions to neighbors with a small gift and see it you can bring them onto your side. (They don't want a crack house next door either) They might be able to provide documentation and history which will help your case. Worth a shot...depending on the area...or if they are buying drugs from your squatters. Do this carefully. Last edited by john70t; 10-23-2019 at 01:37 PM.. |

Thanks to Prop 47, as long as they steal less than a thousand dollars worth of stuff at a time, it is not really a crime in Californezuela any more, hence the explosion in property crimes.

Tomorrow I am going to attempt to talk to the principal of the grammar school.
My hands are tied with waiting for the authority to be the administrator of my brother's estate. Last week, after someone got my brothers's mattresses and other discarded stuff out on the street for county pick-up, I walked from my Father's house to my Brother's house next door. I looked down at the residual trash that the "claw" didn't pick up and saw a small clear packet with about 1/4 of it full with a white substance. It re-inforced my belief that either meth or cocaine was used in the house. It must have been wedged somewhere in a chair or clothing. Anyway, the Principal is going to very interested in what I found on the lawn where his/her students would have access to it. This might get things going faster than the Lawyers I am working with. I really wish I kept it because I would just throw it down on the Principal's desk and that would be all it would take. |

I know this "squatter" matter will disappear from an active thread but today I got to see the Principal of the grammar school. It was good.
I told him about my concerns for my dad and the Principal explained the concerns of the school. I got the "we will be in touch" response but that is better than not doing anything. I got to let it go until I am the administrator of my Brother's Estate. Probably months. |

I wish you the best. Losing your brother is awfully hard I know. Losing him and dealing with this is beyond the pale. My thoughts are with you.
