Chip your pet!
A tale with a happy ending. Starving cat at our back door...swollen wound on back haunch. Fed it, brought inside...very friendly, knew litter pan. Our old cat, of course, upset. Made a vet appointment to get wound treated, then planned on paying a fee to the local no kill shelter to take him in...all this happened from Friday night to this Wednesday morn, 1st vet appointment we could get.
Cindy just back from the vet, who chipped the cat. His owner was THRILLED to get him back, will pay the vet bill. Owner lives about 6 miles from us. If cats could talk, this one would have quite an adventure to tell. Our cost? Food & shelter, an upset cat, some littler pan cleaning, and a bit of sleep loss. The reward of knowing of the reunion? Priceless!

Well done!
Our cats have been rescue cats. Shelter always chips them. We pay the annual fee to keep them registered.

Thanks for sharing and great job. I recently read a story about a someone throwing a majorly abused/injured dog into a dumpster. Some folks found it alive but unfortunately the vet could not save the pup. Got a choked up in my office with that one. Thanks for being one of the good guys pwd72s!

Our dogs are both chipped. Our vet did it, and I guess he keeps the paperwork for the money we pay him for their annual exams.
From what I understand, there are several chip companies, and I don't doubt they all have incompatible systems. The old not invented here syndrome.

We dun did it when we had our boy Noah nuetered. My wife is more afraid of someone taking him than him getting lost or sick...

All our dogs are rescues and all are chipped. Towards the end of last year we said goodbye to our hospice dog and went to the shelter to see what we could find. This little one had been found stray on the street and animal control had picked her up. She was ALREADY chipped and had been at the shelter for a few weeks while they tried calling and emailing the registered owner but with no reply. She was tiny, very much a puppy and still figuring out how to walk with all her legs in sync. We wondered if she'd escaped and got lost, but why wouldn't the owner respond to the messages? Being so young it's hard to imagine they had her chipped and the contact details were out of date already. Possible I suppose, but why wouldn't the owner be checking the shelters? I can't imagine how someone cold abandon such a sweet little dog. Maybe they couldn't tolerate the puppy 'accidents'? Still, it's worked out alright for her and us. She's very smart and picked up her training really well. Home for life!

Our dog's chips are the contact info of the vet's office, and us. So even if we get abducted by aliens and somehow forget to update our info, the vet will have the info. Of course we expect to leave this house in a body bag, or on a wheelchair to the old folks home, so only space aliens or the CIA rendition teams will get us out of here.
