The Sultan also owns a very rare RHD F40.

(not his car)

One question that I’ve always had about these car is whether or not any of the principles at McLearn had one for their own use. Guys like Ron Dennis, Gordon Murray, Creighton Brown, Mansour Ojjeh, etc.

javadog, I think all of those guys had a car each, I know Gordon sold his quite a few years ago

I'm pretty sure Ron had his painted in a lovely metallic brown, name of the color was 'Creighton Brown'

Over Christmas I had a look through of my McLaren stash and took photo's of an interesting article from a 1996 edition of Racecar Engineering magazine

Hopefully the text can be read if you zoom in, or if it's not its 1996 VOL. 6 NO.1 edition

Also I found this book, I'll eventually get around to reading it but I believe to be the best book written on the McLaren F1

Out of print but used copies come up for sale quite often and can be bought at a reasonable price

This copy will never be for sale as it was a gift

I also did a stock check of my McLaren F1 1 43 scale models, at last count I have well over 50 all in different raced liveries. It all got a bit out of hand from initially collecting only Le Mans 24hrs liveries

Here is a small selection of my Mclaren F1 collection plus a few random cars in my collection of cars I've done design work on. Once I'm up to date I think the grand total must be around 120, again it all got out of hand once I decided to collect all the F1 drivers, I've started something I can't stop!

It's taken a few years of searching, this one I found in Russia and is quite special as it's a very accurate (right down to the license plate) custom built model of the 1997 long tail GTR road car used for the homologation of the 1997 GTR long tail race car

Was quite successful as the 97 GTR beat the Porsche 911 GT1 to win and finish 2nd in GT1 class and overall 2nd and 3rd at the 1997 Le Mans 24hrs

It's a great book but used copies go for more than $200, each. They were a good deal when new and everybody that eventually sold one that was purchased when they were new made money on it.

Including me....

25yrs to the day the McLaren F1 won the Le Mans 24hr race and also finished, 3rd, 4th and 5th

Quite an achievement for a first attempt for a manufacturer and probably the last race win for a converted road car

Very cool. I grabbed a little die cast, 1/43, I think, for $6 at a drug store the other day, actually one for me and one for my grandson.

I've got around 50, think I've nearly got every livery, dread to think how much I've spent

I'll eventually get a nice 1/43, but for now the cheapy from the drug store is good enough.

There was a McLaren parked on the side of the road next beach along from me. I took off back home to get the camera to take a pic with the 911 next to it. Imagining the caption "The SC keeps good company." But when I got back it was gone.

The usual rules apply - pic's or it didn't happen. So I guess it didn't happen.

I think the brown car eventually got sold to an associate of El Chapo and now resides in Mexico. Ed has had a few stories on VINWiki about his quest to buy it.
