How could a 1982 911SC sell for this much?
This seems like more than double what I would predict.

A well photographed, seriously original example (apparently still has 85mph speedo) with a good color combo makes for big bucks compared to hacked up 911s many here drive.

The world has gone completely nuts, wrt these cars. I had a 1982 911SC when I joined this forum and it was twice this car mechanically speaking, (when I got through with it). It had close to double the miles and some chips. Better color, IMO.
My point is not to compare the value of mine, (sold for $14k in 2004), but I know this car extremely well and it’s $20k worth of fun, tops, even in today’s money. 1982 911SCs had a batch of bad valve springs, (several of mine were broken), and of course broken head studs don’t care how much some fool on BaT paid for the car. Shaking my damn head but it is what it is. ![]()

It’s definitely a prime example of a stock 911SC coupe but they sold in fairly high numbers and there are plenty of nice ones still around.

Where are you going to find another one with the provenance this one has?
If the a/c is working in this it's a bonus for someone in a southern state that needs a/c to be comfortable. New tires, re-done wheels, original paint/interior, it's what a lot of buyers are looking for and not finding. They may have sold a lot of them, but they aren't for sale. This one was.

There are many around but the winning bidder said he lost out on the last blue one and he wasn’t going to miss this one.
Mechanical condition is largely irrelevant to these monied buyers. Cleanliness and originality bring in the money.

The last month or two, many SCs and Carreras have seen stratospheric pricing on BaT. All have been excellent examples with very low to fairly low mileage. Lot of money being thrown around these days. I think people are buying the absence of miles. None of these cars will be driven.

It still has the original York R-12 AC compressor. And it's still set to U.S. import ride height.

Dang. I have the exact same car except’83 Cab.
Color is Granit Blau which seems close to this one. Son of a gun, I might be able to retire now! |

Inflated currency of all sorts needs an outlet, conversion to real property.
Collector cars are the latter. Better buy now before everything gets more expensive. Good luck everyone. ![]() Last edited by pmax; 05-31-2021 at 08:44 PM.. |

I think I sold the One-Hundred and Ten projects car for about $15K. It was also a 1982 SC.

In terms of "fun" modded cars are 2x the fun, and 1/3 the price. The folks buying these aren't seeking "fun", they're buying collector pieces.
