Yeah, I started a thread about this the other day. Any way to prevent the goddamn things from popping up? I assume that pelican parts has initiated this and there’s nothing we can do about it but I thought I’d ask.

I'm getting that plus a full page takeover and I can't even tell what the hell it's supposed to be for. I can learn to deal with the pop down but I never understood how anyone thinks full page takeovers do anything but piss people off and that it's OK to do that to viewers regardless of the revenue need which I get. It's just obnoxious.

| Too big to fail |
Firefox + UBlock Origin + NoScript = no adds, and you can block other idiotic spam-elements like "trackbacks"

Is there a downside to disabling JavaScript?

How do those ads get there? Are all of those companies contacting Pelican directly and getting the ads out up? That seems unlikely, given the wide range of the ad subjects.

I'm guessing Pelican contracts with an ad distributor. (without any sense of controls apparently) There are normal ads. And then there are not-normal ads, which disrupt positive browsing to intentionally create disfunction. Spam forcing is usually counter-productive to consumer-comfort and potential business. About the simplest thing a site owner can do. The more reputable networks won’t even talk to you until you’ve got 1m eyeballs a month.
