Just finished another ship
While working this one, I kept thinking of F1 qualifying, since there was several thousand tons fertilizer called "K-Mag"

I bet washing your office window would do wonders for your outlook on life to say nothing of your camera focus ability.
I enjoy your posts about what goes on there.

I'll bet washing that window this time of year in that part of the country would be waste of time :-)

who exported lots and lots of seed potatoes. One of our best young workers ended up buying the stevedoring company, he was a close friend and now I work for him. I feel I'm more or less retired but still go in every day and help my pal get through his day. We talk cars alot and I do gophering for him. He's alot younger than me but we have similar interests (cars). Some days I might say to him, "Hey man, are you losing weight, is your hair growing back?" I think that's why he keeps me around. Thanks for asking. Last edited by yellowperil; 11-17-2019 at 03:27 AM.. |

Does that fall under the Port of LA jurisdiction? While doing some searching for classmates for my high school reunion in NOLA a few years ago, we found out that one of my classmates is the executive director of the port of LA. Eugene Seroka.. Lived a few doors down from me.. Have no idea how he got involved with that! lol..

I do as well.
I do have a request, completely selfish and self serving. I am interested in seeing what the Bridge looks like on these classes of ships. Even though I was a pilot, I qualified for Officer of the Deck Underway while in the Navy. I find the whole approach to Bridge design (human factors layout) as fascinating as they are different. If you get an opportunity ![]()

I saw the bridge of almost every ship (hundreds) that visited our port. Now, not often do I get up there. Last edited by yellowperil; 11-17-2019 at 04:48 AM.. |

I enjoy your threads. Thanks.
Forgive me for talking about my one micro contribution to the bulk carrier industry. Portland spare parts warehouse audit for big Valdez ships. Guy had a room with buffing wheels and polishing compounds for his car hobby. He had a little time here and there............. As usual we ask what are some of the problems you encounter. Guy says making sure I deliver the right part because it's not always that easy to clarify. I asked "You guys (ship/shore) have e-mail, why not use a digital camera"? He said, we haven't done that but that would really help. And that's it. Cripes, I can't stop..... That week we went to see the BT Alaska in dry dock. My supervisor knew the captain and we went to his office on the ship and the supervisor asked the captain to show me how he guards that bulk of cash he has for payroll. Ship guys will know this but he just pulled out a big pistol from the top drawer of his desk. That was a fun trip. Good food that week.

I had to laugh at the window washing!
I like seeing the ships and searching their names and the next port of call. I always wonder what that life would be like.

ok, where does the fertilizer go to?
or do I have your location wrong? IIRC, it was arctic or sub-artic and not a lot of agriculture anywhere near... |
