They would have been better off moving the Fusion name over to the electric car. But no, they have to mess with the Mustang brand. So unbelievably stupid.

For instance, our 2013 Rogue has less rear legroom than our 2014 Avenger. If you stack everything in the back of the Rogue that you can fit in the trunk of the Avenger, it fills the Nissan up to the headrests of the back seat. For all practical purposes it doesn't really carry much more. Now, compare that to a minivan which gets batter fuel economy and has much more people AND cargo space. |

I went to Ford WHQ to see the car today. It looks like a Tesla with Mustang DNA. I hope it sells well... I may get one as a mgmt lease car if they offer it. I would really like to drive one.

Sedans are out...according to polls, so Ford destroys the Mustang hoping to keep market share and pile onto what's 'relevant'. I get it, they likely spend huge millions of $$ researching this sort of stuff. Car people are a dying breed, sacrificed on the alter of convenience. Yes this e version Mustang would slaughter on every performance metric the cars of our youth. IMO, it is a total fail on why we embraced them from the start. What distinguishing factor does this offering make to make me weigh the option of going Tesla, or XYZ?

As far as SUVS vs Sedans, I am 6' 3 " and fit in my early 911 no problem. I fit in my F150 no problem. I barely fit in our Passat and cannot fit through the window for anything, drive throughs, toll paying, etc. The high side, lower glass thing sucks balls.

Personally I would have been more excited about a real mustang form factor e car. But I see why they did this first. It is all marketing. And like it or not, everyone wants a compact SUV these days. I think Tesla is a trend setter on the huge screen, what I would have liked to see would have been a more integrated screen into the dash. Something that may even have curved portions. Putting a tablet on the center is too close to what Tesla does IMHO.
Commuting in cars with one person per vehicle is just stupid. It doesn't matter how the car is propelled. That said, if I needed a commuter in heavy traffic these days, I would definitely buy an electric car with drive assist. Quiet, relaxing, no trips to the pump. What's not to like if you creep at 20 mph in stop and go traffic for hours every day? :) G |
I don’t know what it has to do with a Mustang, but it’s fugly and I won’t be buying one anytime soon.

The plain fact is that they are niche products — and they will remain niche products until at least three separate miracles happen in their production, distribution, and refueling. This should inspire Ford to be as cautious as possible, but instead it is taking the one nameplate it has left with any equity—Mustang—and slapping it on what looks like exactly the same vehicle everyone else is developing. I’ve noticed for a while now that a surprising number of people in the car business are actively ashamed of what they do for a living. The gasoline-powered automobile has done more to improve our lives than almost any other individual invention known to man, but it’s also seen as a low-class, stinking, hopelessly ignorant amusement of the proletariat by the chattering classes who can’t get enough of completely meaningless bibelot trinkets like the AirPods or Airbnb. These people cannot understand our attachment to the automobile, and since they cannot understand it, they fear it. Since they fear it, they have sworn to destroy it. No doubt the heretical aspect of calling this vehicle a “Mustang” is a feature and not a bug to a whole class of individuals who despise the American love affair with the car and who delight in anything that helps destroy that love affair. It’s not that they don’t care about our emotional involvement with Mustangs, it’s that they are actively working to tear that involvement down. |
California electricity is 49 percent generated by power plants, more when other conditions occur. Its a shell game at this point. Why happens when PG&E shuts down the grid during wildfires and you cant flee your home because the car isn't charged?
