It's my understanding and I may be wrong but QLED is solely a Samsung thing. Cnet did a ranking of best TVs of 2019.

I've had a 65" 4K Vizio for a few years...couldn't be happier. It replaced a 55" Samsung which I had two diff times of repair on it. (motherboard replacement both times) It's amazing that it wasn't that long ago that a 25" tube tv cost was more than a 65" today.

GF just got us an LG OLED that is probably 5.5' feet across diagonally or so. The picture quality is amazing, but even more so is the software and remote. I'll probably never watch it long enough to use all of the features, but it is incredible. The remote is also a digital pointer, and uses voice commands. A fantastic piece.

In the operating room where I had my quad bypass surgery, there was a 100 inch Sony monitor. I was asking the computer tech that my Medicare paid for about the feeds going to it (16) including 40 inches of live video, a small feed of the artificial heart pump so that tech person could watch, ETC, ETC. He said the hospital gets them special from Japan then I woke up with the whole family around me? Sure would have loved to have that flat screen!

honestly, as a well well seasoned Audio and Electrical Engineer, fact is, everything is subjective. ANY Tv today would blow my dads mind. Honestly what you can buy for under $400 is stunning. it comes down to simply the price-point. There will always be the $80 TV, The $800 TV, and the $8,000 TV. your wallet is one of the few things within YOUR control. As a EE, don't get caught up in all the wizbang-woohoo-pixel phase linear with glowing Unicorn obligations often expressed in Giggle hurts

I am waiting for this $2,200 (2006) Sony to die. 1080P and it has the medium Giggle hurts for the day. The XBR was $2700. The wall mount thingie was $400 alone. It ain't bad but daughter had her $400 Vizio on the same wall and it was so much brighter and did not weigh what seems like 125 lbs like the Sony.

I swear by Sony. They're not cheap, but once you switch them out of the default "demo" mode that makes everything garish/look like the Simpsons, you literally don't have anything to do in the AV setup for faithful video reproduction. As I concluded about 40 test screens/menus into my setup DVD... Also, they seem to last pretty much forever.

Not even a hint of a problem and I have stored it in some skanky places. It would suffice just fine till I hit the grave. However, I really like newer TV's because they are sofa king bright.

buy a decent $1000-1500 TV. Replace every 3-5 years and sell old one on craigslist. friends in Hawaii waterfront, always buys a TV from costo. It rusts out............so they just rust and replace at the 1 year point

That 2006 Sony you have is old, like the 34" - probably the built-in speakers sound fine, eh? The 55" I bought in 2008 or so for $800 is so thin (literally, about 1" thick) that the built-in speakers sound awful; too small/tinny. A $150 Sony sound bar takes care of that nicely. As for the wall mount, used to have a tilt'n'swivel, but was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this: https://www.amazon.com/Mount-Factory-Rolling-Mobile-Screen/dp/B00RH46N6M

QLED is not as 'good' as OLED but is cheaper 4k HDR is desirable; don't worry about 8k this decade... | ||

If picture quality is important, OLED is only way to go. QLED is just pimped back-illuminated LCD. But be aware that OLED cannot achieve maximum brightness that some LCD TV's can. So if room is bright, LCD might still be better choice. Also, OLED draws more power. I replaced my HD plasma with 4k LG OLED and never looked back.
