There is a vegan restaurant about 200 meters from my house. It's always busy.
When I heard it was being set up as a restaurant I must admit I thought it would make an awesome steakhouse. But they sure do a huge trade as they are. Even my sister thinks the place is good and she's pretty hard to impress. |

Nope. A lot use different finings that are a no no in a vegan diet. Apparently they are made from animal products??I had no idea until I was having a discussion with someone about a vegan diet.
Just looked. I know from brewing that Gelatin is a popular fining that helps clarify the beer. I don't know if that's something done on a large commercial scale but that could be part of it.

Our closest living relatives eat meat and feed it to their young. Good enough for me.

Ah... Saturdays. To slowly scroll down through a page , getting to a random punchline, and then spitting coffee everywhere laughing.
![]() edit- I have no real opinion on the veterinarians. I just think the pie chart is funny. Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 12-07-2019 at 05:31 AM.. |

Giving up meat is easier than giving up dairy for me. Did two stints for two years each as a vegetarian in my life. Never again though.
The dairy has got to go, I just need someone to set an example for me I guess. I eat beef maybe once a month, small portions. Red meat is hard to digest the older you get, so I have been told and as my stomach explained to me several times.

My wife suggests locating popular bloggers and getting The Modern Vegetarian Kitchen as a starting place.

Any vegans here? How do you deal with gas pain and bloating?
I’ve been on a plant based diet since mid November and I’ve lost about 8 lb and feel really good. However, I can’t handle the gas pain and bloating from eating beans and lentils so I’m getting my protein mainly from pea protein shakes, other veggies and tofu. I’d like to add beans to my diet but the effects bother me and, I suspect, others around me. Where do you get your protein? If from beans, don’t you get bloat and pain?

Not a vegan, but maybe look into (more) nuts, nut butters, whole grains/oats, etc. I think there are quite a few vegan protein powders/shakes out there as well.
Or, if you want to cheat a bit and consider vegetarian vs. strict vegan, then eggs/dairy would certainly help fill the protein gap. Or, if that still isn't cutting it, then maybe cheat a bit further into a Pescatarian diet. I think anything other than a balanced omnivore diet is going to present more challenges WRT nutritional deficiencies (and not just protein). YMMV. |

Legumes for me 2-3 times a week. Your system should get used to it, I don't have any issues but always had beans weekly even before focusing on more recently. One thing you could try is a product called "beano", an enzyme that helps prevent excessive gas. I had an acquaintance that swore by it. Keep up the good work, G |
