Started a vegan diet and man am I going regularly now

I've been eating whole foods and no meat or dairy since Sunday before Thanksgiving. I caught hell from everyone about going on such a strict diet just before THE major eating holiday. Of course I'm doing it for health reasons and not just because I live in Northern CA. So far so good. I didn't succumb to the temptation of delicious carnivorous dishes and sugary desserts at all. I figured that If I can get through Turkey Day and the weekend after without cheating, I ought to be able to maintain the lifestyle. Anyway, so far the best result is that I'm so regular now! The worst is the bloat and gas. I heard that'll pass though, at least I hope it does and soon.

I'd like to become vegan but I just can't face the thought of dating chicks with hairy legs. But good on you and good luck with the health changes.

I had a freind who was on a no sugar/no carb diet through October, and November, and he was miserable (not sure if he lost weight, or was more regular). I can guarantee that I will never go vegan (or vegetarian), and will remain thin, active, and regular.

I agree. Humans are omnivores. Defying nature as a health strategy? Not for me. Moderation.

I can give up the sweets, but red meat would be tough, however I could definitely adjust to a seafood diet.

Im not a vegetarian and probably never will be. But we cut way back on meat consumption and feel better for it. We'll go several days meatless, no problem. But then Ill get a crave for something. Funny thing is after getting away from meat taste, especially beef, for most meals, meat starts to taste really bland and I actually prefer the huge flavor of vegi. Like everything with age, digestion does not get better. This change in eating habit has worked wonders for better sleep (not going to sleep feeling full), heartburn, energy level, weight, and yes, poop. People that say they "cant change", its simply a habit that must be broken. But of course, you have to want to.

Getting rid of sugar simple starches and processed foods is a big plus for many of us. I'm not very great at it, but I do try to be moderate. Can't really say that with a straight face though.

Guys, go watch The Game Changers on Netflix. It’s a little sensationalist so youd have to cut through that but the message is definitely thought provoking.

We've gone in a different direction - low-carb, so more meat, fish, veggies, very little grain and very very little sugar. My wife and daughter are being strict, I'm less so. I think it is good to be willing to make some changes to diet and see what makes you healthier, feel better, etc. Whether its vegan or low-carb or something else.

I went keto for two weeks prior to T-day so I could indulge a bit, but man I was always so hungry during that two weeks.

I could honestly go without red meat (although I certainly enjoy an occasional medium rare juicy hamburger, and steak), but most meals we have are fish/chicken/pork. I plan on doing much more fishing when I retire, and raising chickens.....so.....!

After three days the carb yearnings go away. You clearly have the boredom but you can go dirty and keep the daily intake under 50 grams of carbs, which is surprisingly effective. Almonds, cottage cheese and low carb beer for cheating. Just saying. If you can handle white liquor, you are golden. You can have a big honkin' salad with lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and avacado. Smother with chicken breast, cheese and diet Ranch and you are still within tolerance. Aldi is supposed to be selling zero carb bread but it's not coming to market in a timely fashion. Then you can have a keto cheeseburger. Other stores sell it but at $9 per loaf.

Don't have to go to extremes to have regular BM. Need to eat more fiber, is all. Oatmeal / flax seed for breakfast and 5+ servings of fruit / vegetables a day will do the trick. Vegetarian diet maybe, but vegan is extreme IMHO and you will hurt yourself in other ways. G

If you can get through the withdrawals good deal, if not, just try giving up sugar and caffeine.

This.. watched it a few weeks ago and decided to give a plant based diet a try. I will never totally give up meat but eating far far less of it is my goal.

I have a subscription to Butcher Box, we had done the math and it worked out cheaper than buying our proteins at the local green market. We still get locally sourced proteins just at a better price now. Everything is certified organic, no growth hormones, no antibiotics and all the beef is grass fed. I included their bacon in my deliveries, it is the best bacon I have ever had.
