Once I went to kill a mosquito on the windshield of my car, from the inside, pushed the windshield out. Hell of a thing while driving 60mph.

I installed a Back Rack on my truck the week after I acquired it........... for this exact reason.

I have observed too many folks blowing out the back windows of pick up trucks.

And now trucks come with the little electric window in the middle of that big piece of glass.......

The Back Rack is CHEAP insurance. I went with the full louvered one for complete glass coverage.

My turn today,

I fitted new front brake disks and pads to my truck and put one of the pads on the wrong way round so trashed a new brake disc bedding them in

Other than being stupid my excuse is I did the job outside mostly in the dark

I guess my brother and I have been lucky so far. We've made numerous dump runs getting his new place into shape and haven't had an incident yet. He's talked about putting a headache rack on his dually for some time now. Hope it isn't going to be too late.

You're right Zeke, we've been super lucky. That load was a let's hurry up and get a load to the dump before it closes type run.
It usually isn't loaded that high.

My brother has finally realized he has to LET GO of some of this 'stuff'.
That rectangular tube is actually a large 'C' channel we cut from a 'beam' to make a garage door opening in his new shop.
The stuff in the first picture was all hiding in the weeds/grass such that you couldn't even tell we picked it up when we were done.
I really should start a thread showing what we've been doing. I think you guys would like it.
Yet another dump load:

My rear window story.

3/4 ton pickup with full pallet of cinder blocks. 4x4x 3 ft tall

shrink wrapped

got loaded at store. did 2 tie down straps up and over.

panic stop at stop light. whole loaded shifted forward shreading and tearing saran wrap.

not only shattered glass, but put a big bow into the front wall of bed.

FYI - a good method to pull the bowed out front bed back into shape: wrap 2" tie down strap around the top/bottom of bed , long wise front to rear .

tightened strap sucks the bow back out .

works great

so when hauling heavy loads,,,,secure the front of load to rear tie down point.
