Joe Rogan on pool cues
Yes, Joe is actually a decent pool player. Has a nice diamond table at home, is capable of running a rack or 2. Anyway, in this one, I wish his guest would quit talking over him. If he has a Sugartree, he has a nice cue. Pretty highly regarded cue among customs being made today. I was surprised that in cue ads, he didn't know that MOP stands for Mother of Pearl. Six minutes clip...

I like Joe's videos. They're often "manly" which is refreshing in a PC world.
and yes Matt Farah is a blabber mouth ![]()

George Balabushka was a renowned cue maker back in the day. Now gone, documented examples of his work are quite valuable. The "strings on it" Farah mentioned was indeed original Courtland wrap...also known as Irish linen wrap. Courtland was a linen fishing line maker. No longer in biz, but Irish linen wrap is used to this day in various colors. If one can find a spool of the original Courtland in the proper color and size, he's found gold. Rogan is quite the character, able to hang out in many areas and be accepted...the car guy world and the pool world are two of them. Here he is at a pool tournament doing an improve of 5 times USA Open champ Earl Strickland...Earl is now in his late 50's, early 60's, still able to play at a high level when his head is right. I listen to his Podcast several times a week. Lots of interests. Avid hunter, pool player, former taekwondo champion and a fitness/workout freak. Among them. Interestingly he's also a big car enthusiast, owns several badass modified muscle cars, a sharkworks modified GT3 and one of his favorite cars and one he talks about alot is his Tesla model S.

Have to admit, I'd never heard of the guy until he posted on a pool site I go to. That was about 8 years ago. All the reply posts prompted me to research him. He's a man with broad interests, and seems to study all of them pretty thoroughly. A man who has strolled in and out of the wilder side and yet remains mainly intact. I guess I've become a Joe Rogan fan of sorts.
In amateur pool, he'd be considered a low A in skill...A to D ranking system. Playing a top pro in a race to 9 games won in 9 or 10 ball, he might win a game or two. This is not a slam..in other words, he could enter most local amateur tournaments and come out in the top 4 or 5. He's a good shot maker and understands how to control the cue ball. He's had instruction from none other than "Mad" Max Eberly, a top pro.

I must have seen the color of money my early teens and hadn't played a game of pool since without referring to my que as my balabushka |

![]() Great cues but it's almost impossible to find an original in Aus. I can play but I was never that good. There was a guy I knew years ago that could've become a pro but he didn't have the discipline to practice. Back then you could make a living playing pool in the pubs of Sydney NSWs. Most of the time he did OK so he made enough to pay his rent, buy booze and get by but one time I watched him win 8 grand in about 4 hours! ![]()

(edit) They do. Here it is: https://www.ozonebilliards.com/product/joss-cues-the-color-of-money-pool-cue?msclkid=241a690f72e9188385d034fa4b54e3d9 Really, you should watch "The Hustler" to get a better understanding of "The color of money". Pool players think The Hustler is about pool, but in reality, it's a love tragedy. Newman got an Oscar for color of money, but he really should have won one for his work in The Hustler.

Newman himself? Lots of reasons to respect and admire. When it comes to things automotive, he had driving talent far superior to McQueen. Also respect that he stayed with the same woman "'till death do us part." Then there is his charity work...
