Mercedes forum

Does anyone know of a good forum like this for Mercedes owners. I recently purchased a 1997 E300 Diesel and could use a resource like this.

Thanks, Dale

I am on Benzworld also.
Alas you won't find the level of expertise and camaraderie we enjoy on PP, but it's a start!

Thumbs down

All the benz forums are full of "tough guy's" or "know-it-alls." Proceed with caution.

I'm on the SLK World forums for my wifes car. Whole different world over there. Tech expertise is minimal as those cars are just so new and reliable. I use it for some info and common issues but tech issues are not huge, maybe a squeek here or there or water leak or maybe add a Smart Top or side marker upgrades now when these cars are out of warranty and have lots of miles........ time will tell.

I got her the 350SLK so I can take over her Porsche. We know who won. I have a passenger side mirror, antenna and speakers. She has every option available on a SLK to 2005 as it was owned by MB until 2007 as a press car.

I still think I won.

I've got a '99 e300d... I've had great luck on the peachparts forum.

Things to watch for on that car:
- front spring perches can rust and fail
- the vast majority of idling/driveabilty issues are caused by air leaks around the plastic fuel lines + fittings.
- people will say over and over that the intake manifold has to come off to change the fuel lines. They don't... Take out the windsheild washer bottle and the fuel filter, and you have full access.
- new engine and transmission mounts will TRANSFORM your car
- seized glow plugs can be an absolute, game-changing disaster on that engine. Be very, very, very, very, very careful about taking that on, or hiring it out to a lackey

I've had mine for 4 years, it is a great car. Beautiful ride, even handles decently... Great interior, and it's a joy to work on. Enjoy!

peachparts.com - the other sites don't have as much repair DIY- either hi dollar mods done by "tuners" or kids wanting wheels.

Yup. You won't find much technical knowledge on Mbworld or Benzworld. But you will find lots of conversations about rims and sound systems. Installed by someone else of course.

Alas, none are as good as Pelican. I think largely because very few MB owners do as much of their own wrenching on their cars as do Porsche 911 owners. And, of course, no MB model was around anywhere near as long as the air-cooled 911.

All have their share of young arrogant know-it-all a**holes (mbworld.org seems to have a surplus) but some good info can be obtained.

Don't get me wrong- I like peachparts and respect the knowledge there but I always get the impression it's members are all old guys who look like greasy Fred Sanford meet- Santa Claus types.

You know, the "I salvaged and have been driving the same beat-up MBZ I rescued in 1971 from a scrapyard" type.

"NEW" is 93 - up in that forum

Oh come one now Matt...not true...I am on mbworld and there are alot of guys that wrench on their cars from Black Series to 190s. The E55 AMG are extracting some serious power from their cars and all being done by sensible owners at home.

Yasin, my baselines are great forums like Pelican and iH8mud, where the majority have technical knowledge and do some work themselves. There are MB folks that have technical know-how, but there's also a lot of folks that think a dealership is required to change wiper blades.

benzworld.org and slkworld aren't bad for SLK owners...

I'm happy I finally got to drive the SLK to work this morning after 3+ months in hibernation (finally there's been enough rain where I'm convinced that all the salt and other nasty crap has been washed off the road).

I forgot how fun (in a slippy-slidey sorta way) that summer tires can be in 35-40 degree (F) temperatures...

Absolutely true, but peachparts is still THE BEST resource for w210 benz, and *especially* for those with the om606 diesel engine. I have received TONS of help there. It's simply the best resource for these cars, they have done everything and anything to them and are VERY helpful

IH8mud is the only forum I've ever encountered that is on a par with Pelican regarding technical knowledge. Awesome site for Toyotas, especially Land Cruisers.
