Well, it escalated to over $30k, pouring ice water down the front of my trousers.

That's the brilliance of BaT, drumming up interest while the price is lower and getting the bidders to come out. All auctions start @ $zero.

I had a 2009 GTS. Really great fun for a SUV. The problem was that I also had a C63 at the same time that was equally practical and way more fun. Car > SUV.

It's the 6MT that is driving the price there.

Yep, that and the BaT factor. It went for almost double what an identical automatic rig can be had for. BaT does an amazing job of curating super clean cars for sale and marketing them. In this case, there were 2 or 3 guys who really wanted it and did not care about spending a few grand extra to get it.

I'm starting to think that the only way to get a great used car is to bite the bullet and spend a little extra for one on their site. I've bid on a few 911s and an old MB but never won. I've come close but there was always someone willing to pay more.

Why pay the Porsche tax just to get an SUV?

Because it blows other SUVs out of the water and there is no tax in relation to what they cost new...they are dirt cheap.

Other than that, IDK?

SUV that is stupendously capable.

Friend of mine had a BMW SUV that he had Dinaned up a bit. Something that size, that can go and stop like they do, strains the laws of physics. Would run away from anything but the fastest of donor cycles. I bet the Porsche flavored one would be like the BMW, except a Porsche, so sporty

I am no SUV guy, but I can see the attraction

I bought mine because it can tow my trailer, and it was significantly cheaper than a used Tahoe or expedition.

They just had one on there I was watching a week ago, Even though the manual gts is rare, seems like BAT finds them or attracts them

AND that you are smart enough to change the fluids regularly and not to thrash it when it's cold - chances are it will be just fine.

There are still good deals to be had, they aren’t the only source. I’ve quit even looking at BaT because the prices are so damn crazy.

I agree but don't know how you can stop looking at it, the parade of great cars just never stops. There are ~150 cars for sale there today and everyday, probably 100 of them are interesting and/or in astonishing condition. The photos and information available are unmatched in the online marketplace. It would take me a year or more on eBay and auto trader to see the number of great cars I can see there in the next 30 minutes. And some of the early 911s and Alfas, I would never see because they never hit the open market before BaT auctions.

I agree about the prices, it's a total seller's marketplace.

Prices are outrageous, but I'm glad the cars for the most part are curated.

It's either a seller's market, people have to much money, or we're at the hands of subprime auto loans.

When the bubble bursts and people default... I'll be ready with my cash for some good deals

I agree it’s good for car porn. I would also have a hard time buying a car on there sight unseen. But logistically it’s tough to see a car within 7 days unless it’s nearby. You know as well as anybody that there are a LOT of variables with a classic car, and that it’s easy to hard things in pictures.

There are lots of turds sold on BAT, that otherwise look nice in the pictures... We serviced a 77 3.0 Turbo bought on there that was advertised as excellent and the pics looked good. When the new owner brought us the car it was in need of a complete restoration... It didn't sell for restored money, but it wasn't cheap either....

We have also seen a couple of cars on BAT that we have had in our shop for minor issues.... What I can tell you is buyer beware on BAT. I guess the same goes for any other auction site, but BAT passes itself off as having unique good cars.

Cheers
