Mirrors for a Bicycle

Oh, I find an eyeglass or helmet mirror very useful for commuting in traffic. Improves situational awareness greatly. For riding in uncrowded situations, not needed. It also allows you to check out the cute girl you just passed in a less-creepy way.

Seriously I know zero serious cyclists who use bar mounted mirrors.

I've never found a handle-bar mount mirror to be useful on a bike. I now ride recumbents and having a "head-mount" mirror makes it very easy to see behind me.

+1 on the Take-A-Look mirror. Super light and rugged and stays in place once set.

Rather than attach the mirror to my glasses, I have my Take-A-Look mirror clipped onto a piece of plastic which is velcro-d to my helmet.

The good news is, and I relly appreciate the input, is that at the prices they want for each type, I'll get both and see what works best.

Paul, I ride with a left hand mirror only on the handlebar, and its a small bar end MC mirror, very sturdy. As for MIPS, yes,yes and yes but try to get one that extends down the back of the head a bit for the extra protection. Even with MIPS if the helmet just sits on top of your head the back of your skull is exposed.

Look at the better mountain bike helmets. They have much better coverage of the back of the head than road helmets.
I have a TLD A2 that is a MIPS bucket and before that I had a Specialized MIPS helmet that was good.
Try on lots of them and pick one that fits best with the best ventilation.

Bike helmets age out quickly with use. Heat/salt and abuse.

Yesterday I installed my new mirrors and was very impressed by the design and ease of installation.

I plan to also get the glass mounted version John recommended for when I ride my road bike.

These to bikes are mostly for low speed beach and neighborhood riding where there is little interface with vehicles.

Also upgraded the beach cruiser seat.

My 'urban cruiser' 8speed belt driven bike, uses the same mount, in the first pic. (hard to see the mirror in that pic)
The second pic is my road bike with the same type mirror, but it's integrated into the shimano shifter.

Seahawk, good on you getting back on the bike. I logged 11,200km on the bike last year. Helmets mirrors vets etc are great- but the biggest factor is to choose very carefully the roads you use. Cars at 60mph and bikes on rural roads are a very bad combination.
